i do my digging at thrift shops and go by instinct. this way, if my instincts are bad (they often are) i'm only out 25 cents. anyway recently i've been finding a lot of these records that were made by speaker and microphone companies in in order to show off "hi-fi stereo" when it was the big new thing and to be used to reference studio monitors. they have some sick stuff on them. most useful is that they are filled with individual instrument sounds. the guy will be like "this is an upright bass..." and there will be a nice long upright solo to have my way with. lots of drum breaks, flutes and everything else as well. if you see any records of this kind on the cheap grab em up because a lot of them are loaded with useable stuff. just a heads-up.
