i do my digging at thrift shops and go by instinct. this way, if my instincts are bad (they often are) i'm only out 25 cents. anyway recently i've been finding a lot of these records that were made by speaker and microphone companies in in order to show off "hi-fi stereo" when it was the big new thing and to be used to reference studio monitors. they have some sick stuff on them. most useful is that they are filled with individual instrument sounds. the guy will be like "this is an upright bass..." and there will be a nice long upright solo to have my way with. lots of drum breaks, flutes and everything else as well. if you see any records of this kind on the cheap grab em up because a lot of them are loaded with useable stuff. just a heads-up. :)

i didn't know they were sought after items. i find at least two or three every time i hit the thrift shop. just picked up this JBL double Sessions LP. 2 albums of nothing but individual instrument sounds for a total of $1.00.

and here's one on ebay. from the description it does seem rare and worth some money. nice.

another dope thing to check out is the "Children's Introduction to Orchestra" or "Intro to Music". these were made by Disney and Golden and are packed with hits and individual sounds.

I never found one of the Hi-Fi joints, but I do have a couple of the introducing children to music records.

Yeah alot of those records have pure tones that can be filtered into sub bass. They are not that hard to come by, I know a spot with a whole section of them. I useually grab one everytime I dig.
