MPC Key 61: New FCC Filing From Akai

Anyone know if the Key range span for multiple sounds they’ve introduced in this update will work for being able to split and layer External Midi tracks soundsources too or does this only work with internal sounds,the new Akai video doesn’t say for sure I know you can add more tracks to stack more sounds but they don’t show if it’s possible to address them for External midi or the usb

I do hope that it works for being able to have zones on a single keybed for Midi sources too that would be awesome and bringing the MPC to a Workstation status,this would be fantastic for my live situation I know you can layer tracks together already but having the ability to now allocate them specific zones is really nice and will open up new possibilities for using my MPC for gigs

Yes, it will work with any track type.

Awesome,thanks good to know,I’m really starting to dig this newer generation MPC,after 20 years of nothing but The 4000,I thought there wouldn’t be anything that would take its place

I’d originally dismissed the x when it came out but it great that they are still chucking out the updates for this line of MPCs when most manufacturers would have abandoned it by now.

It Still needs a few tweaks here and there to make it perfect but it’s getting there

$1899 sounds alot better than $2500. seems alot more fair when comparing modular units + a mpk 261.

I bet these new instruments bundled with the Key will be paid plugins for regular MPC. To be honest I don't mind, as long as OS updates themselves remain free. I don't need a grand piano plugin or a FM plugin for instance.

However, i do need that AKAI corrects all the bugs.

Regarding the price, I will warn AKAI though, the Fantom 0 is like $1500, supports audio streaming from the workstartion directly to a DAW via USB, has far better effects and a better synth engine (ZENCORE) than the current MPC line right now.

AKAI will have to justify musicians spending $2000+ on this.

Big sign says STANDALONE. That means this is my first MPC and I'm 17 years young. So if that picture on the box is false I will complain and return it. Never heard of MPC 2 software and I don't own a computer I used Dads to take the SAT classes last semester.

If you zoom in the picture, you will see the new synth that people rumor about.Fabric, organ, etc... We will see if not MPC key user will have to pay for them.

Anybody got a decent pic of the rear panel,I'd like to see what I/O its got,I could just make out the 8 CV outs on the Scott Storch picture.


Interesting that they are calling it 'Synthesizer Keyboard,I hope this means its going to have an actual internal synth engine and not just Plug ins or Sampler reliant sound sources.

Anything less than the X in terms of I/O would be a miss on AKAI's end imho.

It really needs to trump the X I/O,A minimum of 6 assignable outputs multiple foot switches, I know more people are using the USB/midi option but if they leave the standard 4 Out 2 ins din sockets out thats a bad more IMO,I dont want to be plugging in USB>midi interfaces for my non USB compliant synths


Well to me it looks like the MPC Live 2,MPC Studio and MPK61 all had a bastard lovechild

I wasn't struck by the rubberised buttons, would have preferred the click ones off the MPC one but hey ho can live with it....I've just Sold my Jupiter X so the funds will go towards purchasing this

I don't even know what "Fabric XL" is but I know that I want it on my MPC yesterday.
