Without that borrowing of samples most of the early hip-hop and rave movement would never have happened.

Thought JT has enough money and lawyers that this never should have happened.

this. of course everyone samples everybody else (and even before there were samplers, rock and roll repackaged every known blues riff to sell to boomer kids). but that's what clearances, credits, and royalties are for, especially at that level of production.

1000%. He has more than enough money. He just feels he’s above the law because he’s a famous producer. Let me put it this way. If he tried pulling that shit on a sample from James Brown, The Rolling Stones or Prince (bigger stars than him with better lawyers) he’d have his ass handed to him. Easier to rip off a relative unknown outside their country.

That was just a fishing hook that caught these guppies with "the fear of missing out".

Is that really why he used the sample? :hmmm:

It's far too tempting to construct dramatic narratives when it's much more likely that he just came across the sample pack from the magazine it was published in (which featured the sequence on a disk), misunderstood or overlooked the license, and used what appeared to be a usable sequence.

Once upon a time, many music magazines would supply sampled patches from keyboard workstations. For many years they were allowed to do this until some time in the early 00s, one of the major keyboard manufacturers asked them to stop.

Now, if you examine the samples they asked the magazines to stop distributing, you might find some of those sounds were partially derived from other romplers and sampled kits.

There was a lot of back and forth in the early days of sampler ROMs.

The above narrative presumes a lot of intent

Hmmm. Does this mean that I've won long term and now I own a close enough limited edition Timbaland MPC? I mean, the only thing I'm missing is the splash screen and the breathing noises. SUCK IT RETRO USERS.

Yesterday I came across a youtube video that showcased the content. Since this was clearly a scam and Timbaland doesn't give two **** about MPC's I thought "let me take a bit of time to see how this guy is gonna try to sell me this device". The guy called him Timberlands throughout the video. Nearly pissed myself laughing.

More sycophantic youtube influencer videos. :vomit: You know, it is allowed to offer some independent comment and insight on these products, it's normal to also look at some negatives, room for improvement etc. Nothing against this guy specifically, he's got good tutorial content etc, but these one-sided 'team-Akai reviews' are a bit cringe.

Surely they know that people take more notice of honest, balanced videos (thinking loopop as always, that guy has caused me more GAS than anyone else on the net).

Think I might have to ban any youtube videos that don't at least offer some kind of balanced critical discussion

Malo beats, the guy that has 10000 videos about how to sample, but only does 8th note chopping. Always positioning products in his videos. Worst kind of influencer, 0 content all ads! :vomit:
