I like hype for clean pads. In general I find all the plugins pretty usable. And tbh nobody in your audience will notice if you’ve used a mini d or the real thing! I also like the included effects even though I find the delays and Reverbs a bit limited sound wise. For delay we finally have the pro delay now. Let’s see if they will bring a pro reverb as well

I messed with it long enough to realize those idiotic cones and spheres make my brain itch.

Why wouldn't a person get rid of things they don't need? Some of us seem to be the digital equivalent of hoarders...

Your either combining multiple post or confusing my post with someone else. I said dramatic someone else said retarded.

But I do agree with them when they said it seems like OCD to uninstall it. You can still skip the presets make your own & auto-sample them. Also, you didn't really answer my question about how long did u use it before u gave up. It seems like you got frustrated because lack of understanding for how to best use it or lack of "good" presets & was like get this crap out here before taking the time to really learn how to get best out of it. I still hope they make a Hype Pro.

Yes I combined replies. Separating them is tedious.

And, literally, I only used it long enough to get sick of the cutesy meaningless graphics, and to realize there is no independent control over the algorithm. I am not a preset hockey, I like to build my own sounds. But OTOH I love good choirs, which are hard to synthesize... so I'll give it another shot.

Ok it's just that when I saw retarded? It threw me off, until I reread the posts.

Anyway, I could see how the graphics could piss people off but they're not useless. It may be better to use the different Int presets instead or like someone else said that since different presets have unique controls that it's best to find the ones you like & make int patches out those as well. But still if like to have more control over everything it may always fell limited but useable if you put in the time like any other synth. Remember, you can always run 8 tracks of OPx-4's. 8)

i'm not a fan of this type of "preset" sound design type of virtual instruments, i don't like that the init sounds are not really init, that you can't control all its nice sound design types, but of course it can be really powerful if 1)you are in a hurry and you need a quick way to get to a sound and 2)if you don't know your ways around sound synthesis.
luckily we have almost all options, tubesynth is an highly underrated good take at a simple poly analog synth with some unique twists (unique lfo shapes, modulatable eq on vco2, modulatable waveforms on both vco's, good auxiliary envelope, great detuning and hard sync options). it is great if you know something about sound synthesis. odissey is a great clone of a classic mono synth. opx4 is a beast of fm synthesis madness, with the downside being it a paid upgrade. same for the mini d which i never tried but it seems nice.
anyway, Hype sounds good, more oriented to the edm type of sounds, but can be used in a lot of situations. not really my cup of tea tho.

hype is all edm/techno/house presets and I would just like to see some hip hop and neo soul presets for these plugins; presets are great for quick inspiration so u can get ur idea down

colonyrecords wrote:Hype to me sounds way better than Fabric XL. I think it’s the filters but Fabric sounds like trash to me, wish I didn’t buy it. OP4 sounds great also, just wish the interface was better.

Are talking about the presets or just the overall sound quality of the raw waveforms?

What makes Fabric sound like trash?

Fabric is way more controllable than Hype, so it's easier to make your own patches from scratch. Or do you mainly like to tweak presest?

Hype overuse of FXs don't help with that soul sound, so it's best to turn them off at first. I wish there was a global FX off button for when you're going thru presets.

Doesn't anybody make their own samples anymore? ;) I don't know if making single-instrument sound samples has ever been a big thing with MPC's though. Is it like, with S1000 etc standalone samplers, people made instruments, but with MPCs, it was more like sampling beats and big sounds from records?

The MPC wasn't meant for advanced sampling at first & not up until the 4000 & kinda with the current models. Akai use to have those advanced samplers but now their trying to put it all in the MPC/Force. Which is why old MPC heads & newer MPC owners especially those coming for the software world be at odds about what the best direction for the MPC to go. Old heads tend to want to keep it simple & are usually the the ones hating on the touch screen  people that had those advanced Akai samplers or the software crowd want more non typical MPC features. I hope that kinda sums it up.

Exactly. the keygroup program still lacks some refinement to be on par with a classic full blown sampler, but is good enough to create great instruments, plus the auto sampling feature is the holy grail. i'm slowly building a huge library of sounds auto-sampling patches i make on the eurorack synth, it's so good that i can play polyphonically patches that are monophonic!
when i want something more characterful i first create a multisample program on the s950 making use of the filter and its envelope, then autosample it in the mpc. it is a tedious but rewarding process.

So I reinstalled Hype and, yes, I must admit there are some great sounds there, especially the choirs... but I still think it's a crying shame that all that power is hidden away behind "macros", and that it is impossible to create sounds from scratch. So maybe I'll keep it, just for the choirs.

It's best to use it knowing your just looking for something good enough to be auto-sampled & edited afterwards. But know you know why I said I hope they make a Hype Pro that makes more tweakable. It has some decent piano sounds after you turn off the effects.
