the analogy i use is like cooking a dish u dont want rotten ingriedients when ur cooking ur dish, u want quality ingredients then u cook up using those, as that makes it easeri to get a good outcome.

while ur idealogy is like just getting a bunch of crappy elements and then try make a good make something good, and while yes that does show skill, but i prefer to start with elements that sound good and inspire.

its the same argument that j-zone had back in the day; where he only wanted to use shitty dollar bin records to make beats; and yes he made some bangers but imagine how much better his beats would of been if looked for dope records instead of those dollar bing reject records.

also who wants to listent to those shitty records and chop notes out of a record u dont like and does not insipire u, versus choping sections and or notes from a record that does inspire.

Nope, that's what you think my ideology is saying. If you say something is crap than everyone must feel the same way, OK....but like I said we went over this, so how far we gonna get walking in a circle?

Presets should inspire, I tend to use them as I'm no sound designer, though I try to tweak a preset in various ways to alter it.

That said, doesn't mean shitty presets mean it's a shitty synth! And vice versa! At the end of the day, musicians are called artists as it is an art. And it's dependant on the ability of that artist to be able to create art using whatever tools are available, good or bad. Do you think Picasso, mozart or chopin complained about their tools? No. They just got on and created with what they had!

Trouble with people these days, myself included, is that they want everything handed to them on a plate. They think that getting another synth/fx, either hard or soft, will make them better or inspire them more. It doesn't always work that way, you have to put the effort in to try and create something using what you have.

I bought a live 2, found it awkward to use as its so different from what I'm used to, so I ended up getting an mc-707 due to having a preference for Roland gear. But tbh, I should've saved my money! The mc-707 is not inspiring me in the slightest! The stuff I've made on the live is 100 times better and I'm only a beginner!

That doesn't mean the mc-707 is crap! Just look at the stuff people can do with it. They are more skilled than me. But then I don't get the time now I used to have. Plus I'm old and tired! Lol

Coming from a oldies humorous perspective, just stop complaining and make some tunes! :) 8)

Old dude spitting facts!
I got the MC-707 too, but only use as synth. It sounds amazing & the engine can go deeeeep. But that little ass screen tho. Why Roland did us like that? :WTF:

agree 100% the main issue is my sound design skills is very limited and that i dont like the default tones, but I fully recognise that others with better skills in sound design can get amazing sounds out of them, but for my limited sound design ability i need a sound source that is closer to the dsired tone

my point was there are some people who seek out shit sound sources and attempt to make fire from those bad soruces an they see that as a demonstration of skill, but am saying i just dont enjoy that approach while i do see the skill in it.

why not just use the zenology pro software as its the same synth?

The screen doesn't bother me, least not when in easy mode. But deep edit is too much for that lil screen. Should've been least the size of the screen on the mc-909! But for me at least, I preferred the sounds on the mc-909.

Looked at zenology, but more shit to install that I don't want to, one thing I absolutely hated about the MPC line, installing all that shit that comes with it. Least with roland hardware there little to no software requirements to install. I don't use any of the MPC Software, but like the fact you can backup projects on pc. Double-edged sword! Just wish it was portable.

I don't really mind it. I think I'm more mad at the fact that, for how deep the 707 synth engine can get is, but then to given that tiny ass screen when they could've did better. Why I don't mind it is that compared to the Force/MPC it has less stuff to distract you. It's very to the point, but there's a lot of points on that thing. This is why having a bigger screen & a better way of using all the knobs for editing different menu parameters would be helpful.

@jpeg - I agree with sl23 about zenology, I like messing around with sounds on the box.

its possible to complain an make tunes at the same time

I dont want everything on a plate just want better variation in the soundsets with the built in instruments

I dont judge synths purely on presets; I base it also on the tone of the instument and how the sound change as I tweak.

Ooh multitasker eh?! Lol

Yeah that's good, just messing with ya bud. It's just that I started with an XP-60 and that was a stupendous piece of kit to start with! A screen not a great deal bigger than the mc-707's! Try using that sequencer! But I found it easy to use, better than daw sometimes as the graphics distract from you actually listening to the Track instead of lining up coloured blocks on screen. Which is why the mc-707 screen doesn't bother me. Shame it doesn't inspire me though! Not the way the live does, that's for sure!

Yeah I'm the same. I use presets and tweak to see what sounds I can get. For me, I'm getting nothing special from the mc-707.
