I spent a good while last night trying to copy notes from one track to another correctly on my MPC Live 2 last night and wasn't able to make it work! I was working on a project (originally loaded from MPC 1000 files then saved in the new format - just in case that's relevant) and wanted to copy the notes from one track in a sequence to a different track so that they'd play with a different program.

  • Selected pencil on Sequence bar
  • Selected "Copy Events"
  • Used the wheel to choose the current track as the source and an existing (but empty) track as the destination. On separate attempts, I tried both the "Replace" and "Merge" options

The result was a load of random notes (including ones for pads that aren't even assigned and were never pressed) dumped into the destination track, that's the only way to describe it. I tried reloading the project, rebooting the machine...no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to correctly copy the notes into another track. I think I've had the problem before but assumed I must have just done something obviously wrong and waved it off. Am I doing something incorrect here, or is this a known bug?

Make sure no other track is sending MIDI data to the rhe mpc during recording. Muting the track may not be enough so turn them off for now. See if that works. Sucks, but you know how it is.

There's another issue where MIDI doesn't sync right & your notes being sent from the other seq will be off beat. If that happens try inserting 3 or 4 empty bars on both sequencers & it should record sync up.

Thanks for coming back - I was probably a bit unclear in my description! The project was copied from an MPC1000, loaded into the Live, and then re-saved as a Live project - I didn't have the two sequencers MIDIed together. Worth knowing though as at some point I am planning to experiment with that!

Oops!
Hopefully some else has an actual solution/workaround.

I'm moving old files from the 1k to the Force & I would wish that he'll on nobody. The JJOS nondestructive chops doesn’t transfer so you gotta chop them again. Then the program setting don't make it over because some parameters isn't on both like the 2 filters on each pad on the 1k (this was so dope for mingling a sample.) Luckly I'm able to match most filter settings when comparing each other. The most tedious part is that the seq data needs to manually recorded into the Force...but because of the MIDI bug I mentioned in my last post, I have to record each 1k track one at a time :Sigh:

Now imagine doing that for 60 beats half synth & half sample beats. I got about 6 more. It will be worth it once it's all on the Force to be redone/finnished.

Oh, & sometime the Electron mini MIDI adapter (that I bought because my used Force didn't come with them), stops working & before I found out what the hell was going on took up time. I had disconnect & reconnect it or push into the MIDI cable with all my might. Also my 2500 that I was using at first glitch out & became unusable. Button would do the job of another & some pad was messing up. I'll stop there... :x

Good luck.

Are you copying between the same types of tracks? If either of them is a drum program check the pad mappings and make sure set to C-2, then stuff copied to and drum drum program tracks should match other types. I've still had oddness occur and it seems hit and miss when it will work...

Me or the OP?

Have you said you have strange things happening when copying between tracks?

They were both drum programs - I would say I hadn't done anything exotic with the pad mappings, but it's possible that whatever the defaults are when converting from an old 1K project don't play nicely with the new format! I'll try it out with a brand new project and see if that's any better.

Just tried this with a completely fresh Live II project and two very basic drum Programs, and the copy of events from one track to another looks good - went to the List View to check, as that was where the madness was on full display last time! Hopefully the original issue was just conversion weirdness that won't rear its head again. Thanks to everyone for the replies!

Which weirdness is List View? Did you have it where it shows each note in quadruplet even though it's a single note? I've had that multiple times with content purely created within the MPC Live 2 but don't know what's triggered it...
