Man just make a new Project first. Before anything use a custom template Project & save a new Project as soon as you load it with the current date or whatever. It's not that serious to most. Comparing the MPC to a DAW will only frustrate you, so I'd advise against it.

Shift+save all day. Its instinctual at this point
Which messed me up a few times when I still had an old Project loaded & started a new by just erasing what was there but not creating a new folder/Project first & saving over the last Project. That what backups is for.
