He was thinking out loud, it was more about how, in order to accommodate disk streaming on the MPC, they would have to move to a unified track system like the Force, which would be more a 3.0 type thing and would require some serious re-working from the ground up.
That was 5 years ago and personally I don't see them going for anything so disruptive now. They might release a '3.0' but it will likely be more of a marketing exercise to accompany new hardware as well as some of the other stuff that I know they are working on.
IMO they don't need to rock the boat too much, not while people are already happily spending $$$

they would have to future proof it and make it backwards compatible at the same time. Don’t know what HW they have in the works but it won’t be 32bit - that’s for sure.
Somehow I can’t see them branching out from a brand new firmware into dumb down version with some of the functions being cut off / disabled just to be able to run on older HW. On the other hand if they’re (marketing team) stupid enough to do it, then they will be forever held back by the older units. just my 50cent…
If you remember what Dan said way back when the live and x came out he basically told the whole roadmap for ten years and he said 3.0 will basically be the last big update before a new generation comes whenever later.. he said that 3.0 would bring disk streaming and basically make the force and mpc equals in features..
After that then it is anybody's guess but I think that is still a long way away.. I don't think 3.0 will be that crazy but it will bring some cool stuff..
