Let’s face it, even if 3.0 comes out, there is a chance that it will be a shitshow because
they would have to future proof it and make it backwards compatible at the same time. Don’t know what HW they have in the works but it won’t be 32bit - that’s for sure.
Somehow I can’t see them branching out from a brand new firmware into dumb down version with some of the functions being cut off / disabled just to be able to run on older HW. On the other hand if they’re (marketing team) stupid enough to do it, then they will be forever held back by the older units. just my 50cent…

The signs are there if you look at roger lin video he had the mpc live 2 and lin instrument..

My speculation will be a force 2 with a speaker built in with mpc 3.0

 Sorry, can't bring myself to watch an hour of someone just chatting, but did he really say this? I did see that he said that some producers seem to be 'nit picking' for wanting to work with the best quality possible. :hmmm: Is this really where we're at these days?

Maybe I should just start releasing all my expansions in 28 kbp/s mp3 format as it will just 'force people to be creative' and 'put them in that uncomfortable zone'.

yeah i never watch peoples entire stream i just tend to skip around to find interesting parts.

regarding his comparisson to serato; he did not say those exact words, but if u skip to 10:00 mark he talks about one specific sample that he used where the mpc stems sounded better then the serato stems.

there is a whole lof-fi genere fora reason; people want that dirty sound hence all the bit crusher fx, and the tape fx plugins, etc so these shitty stems might help contribute to that gritty lofi sound.

I also noticed he intentionally seemed to ignore some of the questions in the live comments. Could just be that he skimmed over them, or it could be that some of the things being asked were too close to what he knows but can't say.

he gave a lot of hints in this vid; such as stems coming to maschine, and kept saying its gonna be a very interesting year in general for production and the mpc specifically.

so expect a gang of new shit this fall.

That's true I will use it it won't stop my work flow just what we expect with this generation mpc I'm sure the mpc line will definitely improve the sound quality of steps and other plugins

If you remember what Dan said way back when the live and x came out he basically told the whole roadmap for ten years and he said 3.0 will basically be the last big update before a new generation comes whenever later.. he said that 3.0 would bring disk streaming and basically make the force and mpc equals in features..
After that then it is anybody's guess but I think that is still a long way away.. I don't think 3.0 will be that crazy but it will bring some cool stuff..

yeah, he said that REN had MPC 60 converters as well
but jokes aside (he's a very nice guy tbf - still lurking here and on FB sometimes)
How can you be sure that his "3.0" is not 2.10 or whatever biggest "upgrade" was to date ? A lot of things can change during the lifetime of a product, that don't exactly align with a roadmap or a planned numbering scheme. Not that I'm sceptical to 3.0 or something, but from my point of view - product generation/software generation scheme would work best for them at this point. If they are able to pull that 3.x thing on current gen devices then bonus points for them but personally I don't count on it - several minor additions Yes, but not a major release.

He was thinking out loud, it was more about how, in order to accommodate disk streaming on the MPC, they would have to move to a unified track system like the Force, which would be more a 3.0 type thing and would require some serious re-working from the ground up.

That was 5 years ago and personally I don't see them going for anything so disruptive now. They might release a '3.0' but it will likely be more of a marketing exercise to accompany new hardware as well as some of the other stuff that I know they are working on.

IMO they don't need to rock the boat too much, not while people are already happily spending $$$

As long as the RK3288 SoC stocks last - they are out of production, so it is only a matter of time regardless of the product strategy.

Im not so sure about that part anymore.. Quite a few of ViewSonic's Android based displays and our little 'media players' are using the RK3288 too, every time I run across one when looking at specs at work I laugh and go HEY THIS THING CAN RUN MY SAMPLER TOO.

That particular Radxa board is in fact EOL, but from what I remember Akai bought the design from them so they can make their own now, although where/how that is happening who knows. I dont think the actual SoC is gone, but the particular manufacturers board they designed the line around is. When the MPC was first being developed they picked a PCB that was already on its way out to begin with hah.
By dustyslices Fri Jul 12, 2024 3:42 pm
yeah, board is gone but the chipset itself is still all around China. If InMusic really have the IP for the board then it's not a big deal for them, normal end user can make such board along with SMT service for pennies (PCBWay, JLCPCB etc...) so I don't see any reason they can't.

EDIT:
actually, you need one brave man to open up latest key37 and have a look at the silk screen date code on the board to prove it ;)

Yes, but then we would write informed comment instead of speculating - and that would be the death of this forum !
