Whadddup, people. It's been a minute. Moved from the 2000 Classic (was stolen,) to the 2500, and now going to the MPC One+. Would you guys/gals consider this a lateral move or a step up? I'm also wondering why the MPC One+ is considered "entry level." Really?

Thanks!

With the new OS being a necessity at some point to actually receive bug fixes (of which there will be many needed still), I wouldn’t do it if you are comfortable with the 2500 and its feature-set.

I would say it's a step up but that depends on different factors. Don't get caught up in titles like entry level. It might the right MPC for you. It's considered that because it has less in & outputs, no SSD & maybe some other limitations, but it does have more buttons than the Live. Also, it's the smallest MPC of this gen. I've had a 2500 since 2008 with JJOS & I would pick even the og MPC One over it. But I like the Force over all MPCs, but these current gen MPCs are powerful as hell & with the coming new MPC3 OS with the old Force features it will be even better than it is now. This One+ is the way to go IMO. Peace!

Step up.

It's as professional and/or clumsy a level as the others.

Wont sound as good as your 2500 or last as long but definitely not entry level.
Anything that can be done on the x can be done on the one. Imo its the only one worth grabbing.

Dont listen to us tho, it might hit you differently. Plus 3.0 changes things.

Dont sell the 2500 just yet.

It kind of depends on your workflow and what your reasons are you want to upgrade.

Imo it’’s only a step up if you’re going to use the FX and plugins, or want a better DAW integration by using it in controller mode.

And I also agree, don’t sell your 2500 yet.

IMHO, it's considered entry level because is the less expensive one of the series, but not because it haves limited capabilities. At least not in software or in processing power.

And, yes, don’t sell the 2500 yet

I agree and disagree. The 2500 can sound very good and can sound flat as well. The One is a kind of medium, neutral sound.More like a computter daw.depends what you want.Personally I like to hear samples playing back through the 2500 more as there is some warmth/character (yeah I know, controversial opinion) there that engages my ear.But for a lot of the rest The One is more practical for modern music. So many features and connectivity and portability.Best thing to do is use them side by side and then decide…..

Thanks guys for all the replies and info. Something tells me that I may be leaning .02 degrees on the regret side of things. My main concern is the sound quality and samples sounding thin, needing adjustments to sound thick.

But I'm not selling my 2500 though.

Don't believe the hype. The new MPC/Force sounds better than the 2500, which was know to have a transparent sound that was hated by many when it came because they said it sounds too clean. It's cleanness is why I liked it as my main sampler, as I don't want it to color my samples. I add my own character later.

I have both the 1000/2500 & the Force & transferred about 60 MPC beats to the Force (my 2500 died halfway thru so I used the 1k for the rest) & can assure you the Force will make all your samples sound louder. It won't change the character of the sound as it's a clean sampler as well, tho you won't have to sample the beats into the new MPC/Force, just load the programs.

The higher bit rate allows for louder signals. If you haven't, study the different between 16 bit & 24/32 bit. Higher bit rates increase the audio headroom to allow for higher signals before it starts clipping. Make sure your gain staging is correct. Here some links that may be helpful:

One thing I noticed since the new MPCs came out is that yeah everything was loud and annoying.Altho a good producer can turn the dynamic signals into gold of course.i doubt there is any new MPC user that does not use a whole raft of plug ins.A rea;ly good sounding sampler should be able to be mixed straight out the box using deft gain staging and mixing.I do like the new line but it’s a very neutral plain sound without plugs magic.

Thing is with the 2500 it didn't ADD or TAKE AWAY color. The compressor on the master aint too bad either. Prolly the most neutral sounding to ME. RAW SIGNAL.

Modern mpcs are just straight out flat but more noticeable when layering/summing multipe tracks and pitching down. The mud and muffleness starts to appear. Most of the youtube comparisons are useless because they focus on sampling input, some youtubers even tried to LOAD sounds in to them toncompare. Lol

Sonics of samplers is beyond just the initial sample trigger.

Maaaaan. So far I'm not feeling this MPC One. Almost every thing that I do I have to watch a friggin video for it. This is madness. SMH. I end up shutting the $h*t off out of frustration and doing something else. lol

Was you expecting to instantly master a new device? Start by reading the manual. There a lot of useful info in their & buy the MPC Bible.
