Had this once when trying to save to an sd card, seemed related to me ejecting a separate usb stick earlier in the session as once I reattached the USB stick the project saved fine (to the SD card). Unable to recreate it so far

Ok...I just installed 3.4 on One of my MPCs. So far so good. I'm still peeling back the layers. Akai really listened to one of my Biggest Requests! We can now Re-order FX Slots! A Small learning curve. I'm feeling it so far

Yes. It’s on page 41 in the new V3 Quick Start Guide that came with the update. Ie the ”Locate popup”.

First of all, what’s ”non standard” time signatures? Secondly, did any musician ever ask ”what is the benefits” regarding musical necessities? How else would you do the following?

all the major musical styles can be made within 4/4

Many benefits.

Having different time signatures is defo a feature that should be present; however it appears that 2/4, 4/4 or 8/4 are the most comonly used for most modern musical styles.

The odd signatures are seeminly for more arcane styles of music, like folk, waltz or other less popular ethnic styles.

But it does not really make the music sound different per se; as u will still sound lik every other waltz or ethnic peice of music regardless

not sure what you consider a "major musical style".
Lots of tracks in "major musical styles" I know of that are not 4/4.
As I mentioned above, even dance floor stuff with a "straight" continous bass drum beat ist often in 12/8, not 4/4.
Arguably, 12/8 can be mapped on 4/4 given you have triplets, but its not necessarily the same with swing then.

But besides of that, if you discount any beat like 5/8 or 7/8 or 9/8 , or anything based on 3 like 6/8, as a "non major musical style" or even irrelevant, I wonder if a board about grooveboxes is the right place to state this, without looking a bit, hm. How to put it IDK.

I even made 13/8 beats a few times, and after that I realized that its not even uncommon. Some people come up with alternating bars of different lengths that give measures like this, for instance.

I mean, even if you consider basic music education your are taught, simplified, that 4/4 is a "marching rythm" that "doesn't groove".

Your statement sounds to me like "every major children song can be played in C major".
Neither true, nor a relevent argument to use C major only, or is it.

4/4 is the most common time signature, hence 'common time', but 'arcane'? Plenty of modern electronic music is written in other time signatures.

Let's just move on from this, it's an utterly pointless discussion and it's derailing this topic. If you want to discuss the merits (or apparent pointlessness) of using time signatures other than 4/4, feel free to create a separate topic in the Production Skills sub forum.

Thanks, I’ll see if I can reproduce it. I didn’t have any other storage attached, but I was switching between different class compliant USB devices. I took a screenshot of the message and made a mental note of the project state but unfortunately this one is a bit tricky to reproduce as I was in the studio and wasn’t able to save the project as a record, so I’ll have to try and run into the same thing again artificially.

Wasn’t too bad for me because although I wasn’t able to save my project on an eight hour session, I arrange the project using other tech and use the MPC for sound design/mixing. I identified the issue before I started on the mix and I can reproduce the sound design on the MPC in much less time than it took me to originally develop the arrangement and sound design in conjunction.

This bug would be a real vibe killer for someone who is sequencing and building programs in just the MPC in stand alone. Was four hours in before I realised I couldn’t save the project and I wasn’t able to save the track programs individually either (same error message).

Certain rhythms/grooves are just that way. I think a lot of people (myself included at times) think of progressive / complex music as the only music requiring them but it turns out plenty of great music all over the spectrum incorporates them in some way.

Correct me if I'm wrong somebody but I'd assume that the linear, timeline based approach to music making should theoretically be allowing more flexibility in this regard, not less. Probably makes this even more weird.

regarding the linear timeline of the arranger; the main reason people wanted this added to the MPC was to better handle the audio tracks being integrated into beats/songs, as audio tracks seemed rather cumbersome in MPC 2.15.

far as rhythms/grooves and progressive / complex music ; can you give some examples of music that is made with odd time signatures, be it jungle, drum n bass, house, techno, broken beat, hip hop or pop.

If you can provide some links to songs that are in non standard time signatures that would be a great reference, cos to my knowledge all the aforementioned genres can be comprised within the typical 4/4 structure.

No, as I said this isn’t a topic to educate people in the use of time signatures in modern music, feel free to start a separate topic in the production skills forum if you need help with this.

When I removed and reinserted the SD card while working, I couldn't save my project anymore.

anyone feel that the gain staging or sound engine is different in 3.0; as certain beats that had a lilttle bit of drive in 2.15 are massivly distorted in 3.0; even some beats that had no noticible distorition in 2.0 have lots of distortion in 3.0

No need to "feel" anything. Bounce the sequence in MPC Software, then bounce the same sequence in MPC 3 and compare the audio. You can objectively compare the differences in the resulting audio files.
