Mpcs existed for 30 years without plugins, it’s amazing that we have them in the first place. I’m sure akai put in limits for a very good reason,

Anyway there’s plenty of other ways to create instruments including keygroups, 16 levels etc. You can also autosample plugins, or bounce them down to audio tracks. And use external hardware instruments

This Generation is a Different Breed. They're coming from a Desktop Environment. So they EXPECT Desktop Quality/Features in Standalone. What can you do? lol

Very true, but Akai doesn't market that point well to these new users, so I don’t blame them for their ignorance on what to actually expect from an Akai MPC/Force. Them Andy Mac demo's will a mothafu*ka that don't know any better tripping.

Yes they definitely big up the plugin and 'workstation-like' aspects of the key models, so it's not surprising some people are buying these things purely to play plugin instrument patches rather than as a 'sampler/sequencer/loooper/multitrack recorder/workstation' jack of all trades. But there are better and 'proper' workstations out there, so extensive pre-purchasing research required (as is always the case with anything these days, and this is half the fun of course).

That's the thing, part of the research some people do is watching them Andy Mac videos & he's good at his job & now we're having this convo. Damn you Andy!

I was born in the 80s. Previously owned MPC2500, MPC4000 and MPC Live. Akai’s reluctance to move with the times has made the MPC a side-toy, rather than central to my setup.

loopop does it best.

For synth reviews, if it doesn’t have “no talking” I’m not clicking.

Niche requirement. Has to be by choice, at certain times, not permanently enforced via lack of options/capability.

Good question!

I'm not likely to ever need 8 plug ins in a sequence, so I'm guessing I'm going to have to choose and stick with them in a template, even when not used, for putting together a live set

I get the 8 audio tracks being a limitation with sending all the audio from memory, but with a 16 input audio interface, I have different synths routed to different ins. So they aren't hitting the ram, just processor for effects and mixing. So the limitation means choosing which synths are available to inputs, deciding for or against using external send and fx returns for a lexicon reverb, and then if I actually use an audio tracks or 2, that will limit the number of inputs I can use.

All of these limitations aren't really a problem for a sequences, but it seems with MPC 3, I have to stick with them all being chosen across all the sequences if I want to mix between them live.

I like limitations for creative reasons, but this seems more handicapping and lots of analysis paralyses, if I have to do everything the same.

I am super guilty of this lol. It's because it's a virtualization of the MPC experience that I think that way. like ffs they didnt even have design a hardware sampler its all done in code. The machine we see before us a monkey could have created with an rpi an a m-audio card and a mpd. So if the software experience sucks the whole device sucks because the physical product design is terrible.

I usually don't go into internet arguments, but... C'mon man, that's a shitty metaphor. We're just greedy bitches. A sampler with 8 audio tracks and 8 simultaneous plugins is not the equivalent of celibacy, is the equivalent of what the average man gets out of a fully functional dick and a healthy sex life

That's it, I leave it for today, sorry for the off-topic
