I'm not sure how ya'all can write off a collab with NI - which has been Akai's chief competitor for years - as not impressive. I mean, I get that the Play series may not be your wheelhouse and you have no use for these sorts of third-party Expansions, but - come on - Native Instruments and Akai/InMusic have partnered - that's HUGE.  This would be like Apple and Google partnering to release a new phone.

Well Reaktor ensembles in MPC standalone would be kinda cool

But kinda seems unlikely there will be any new hardware;which suprising as would of assumed new hardware would accompany 3

I was just telling a buddy of mine the same thing.

NI had to bow down and kiss da ring of Akai

Maschine has not been any real competition for Akai for years (once MPC One came out it was a wrap)
They have been chasing Akai for years trying to catch up; despite being ahead at one point, but they fumbled the ball and now they have conceeded defeat, by jumping on the bandwagon.

Sounds was always NI strong point; they lucked up on machine, but they got arrogant after machine got to 2.0; success got to they head.

They became complacent flogging soundpacks and trying to build a machine ecosystem with maschine jam.

Now they have been humbled; maschine is a dying platform; lets see what other NI instruments they can bring over to MPC land; even if they do kontakt lite/intro; so people can import their own 3rd party kontakt libraries, that would be cool

NI stuff really doesn't add anything to MPC.
Their products are old, digital clean shit of the first 2000s, they don't have anything exciting.
At this point, I much prefer Air, opx4 is a great synth, I wonder why Akai has to look for NI when they have Air crew with them.
Not to mention Moog and Alesis, which are miles and miles and miles ahead of NI.

This may a test to see if inMusic will buy them out.

They should buy Propellerhead instead.

Kinda agree with this. Well modeled moogerfoogers with mod input for everything would have been pretty fun and I would give an arm and a leg for an accurate, feature for feature Micron/Miniak engine for the MPC.

Alesis has Micron and Ion, good synths, good reverbs on Quadraverb.
Moog we don't even have to say anything about the synths and moogerfooger.
So, do we really need NI?

IMO? Not if we were to get that. But I'm not too familiar with NI. Except for Reaktor their stuff didn't interest me all that when I was ITB.

never having had a Maschine, that was my first impression of the sounds for these four plugins from loopop video. sure, it's nice and more varied synth plugins are always nice to have in standalone. but i'll probably wait to hear if they can be made to sound better or at least more different than Hype/Fabric before taking this plunge. also, the x/y programming interface seems fun(ish) but more gimmicky than practical in live settings?

I mean... that's certainly an opinion.

Because neither Air, nor Moog or Alesis are seasoned sound designers that release tons of curated content. Don't get me wrong - I love OPx-4 - it's a fantastic 4 operator synth for the MPC/Force, but exactly how many Expansions have we seen since it came out over 2 years ago?

One (Pro Motion).

You can hate on NI all you want, but the fact is - they've been seasoned sound designers and curators of content for 2+ decades, and have a massive back catalog of still relevant stuff.

Or they give their try on the Play series. Very limited UI and half sample based. The user can only tweak sounds so system resourced can be guarded.

I think this is reasonable, but I doubt that it is what you guys want to get.

And we got the Play Series as MPC Edition.

I should have placed a bet ;)
