B-Wise wrote:It was also my first piece of standalone hardware. Before that I had MTV Music Generator 2 for PS2 that I saw out of nowhere at Gamestop in the BX. I don't regret it at all. It was so basic but nifty. It made me be more creative because it couldn't sample & you could only use 1 bass patch per pattern, so I would overdub different part at different octaves to make a whole beat with drums, a bass-line, harmony & a lead melody.
I found 3 DR202 beats tapes from like 2003 back in Nov of 2022. I'm currently making a album with the best beats from the DR all remade with the Force & other gear, even samples from the 3 cassette tapes. It's been a great ride so far, esp after I learned how to control the DR202 Cutoff parameter with the Force crossfader - It don't use common CC messages, but NRPN - this made the synth on waaaay more interesting.
I heard good things bout MTV music generator back in the day; I was on Reason or Fruity loops back then, I recall that the bass tones could indeed be used as lead sounds on the DR202.
But yeah, lotta people was going through they old beat archives around the pandemic time; but I would interested to hear that beat tape when it drop.
