Hi
I have a question surrounding the workflow of chopping samples in the MPC Live as it relates to the way I usually chop samples on Ableton Live 12.
Here is the link to a document with this question which includes screenshots for easier understanding:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FfrgbqzvIgzLT7LtDqS6htUxXkX-pl3lBFnajqrFBfk/edit?usp=sharing
Usually I start by making sure the Auto Warp feature is turned on in Ableton and when I drag a sample in, the sample is auto sliced by bar most of the time (not sure why it doesn’t always chop it up).
If you take a look at the screenshots in the document for example, you can see that the sample I used, William Bell - I Forgot To Be Your Lover - is auto chopped into 1 bar pieces AND because WARP is set to ON, when I change the project tempo, this adjusts the tempo of the sample too.
I can then drag this sample into Ableton’s SIMPLER
Then I can change the SLICE BY to BEAT , DIVISION to whatever I prefer, ½ bars in this case and PLAYBACK to THRU which is perfect for the way I like to playback a chopped up sample.
Finally, you can see that I can trigger each slice with a MIDI controller for example and chop away as I require or adjust the slices too of course.
My question then is, can I use this workflow in the MPC Live, which is what I wish to use it in, specifically noting that when the sample is auto chopped the 1 bar slices are initially auto warped so for example if one slice of the sample is 2.3 seconds long in actuality and another is 2.5 seconds long in actuality, auto warp feature will compensate with whatever WARP algorithm I end up choosing (COMPLEX PRO with 0 formants usually).
By compensate I mean it will adjust each slice it detects as 1 bar into a single length for all slices that are used as 1 bar e.g. 2.4 seconds.
This question is aimed at anyone who understands what I am asking and of course any Ableton users who also use the MPC Live or any other variant thereof the hardware that uses the MPC 3.6 firmware which is what I use on my MPC Live at the moment. And just to be clear, I wish to use this workflow in the MPC Live in standalone mode (happy to use controller mode at times if I must to speed up my workflow too however).
Thanks very much.
