Akai Is Gaslighting MPC Users (And Now They Own Everything)

I'm only salty because I don't like being resold features we used to have access to in older version of a machine, that we only now have access to in newer versions that we have to pay for, just to do things we used to be able to do in older versions. I'm a firm believer that if you make a good product, you don't have to make newer versions just to get new consumers. Akai has a history of leaving legacy machines in the dust, that are capable of doing stuff the newer machines can do just by changing a few lines of coding. But hey, if you like the idea of buying the latest greatest, shiny new thing, more power to you. Continue being a part of the reason why things will never change.. Do yourself a favor and watch the video though. I'm sure a lot of y'all will relate. At this point I'm so close to just sticking to Ableton, Logic, or Studio One,. and buying a midi controller. The Akai of old is long gone..

the Gen 1 devices were being supported for almost a decade, so the support for old devices was more than fair

I wouldn’t mind the price of used Akai devices falling even more, bought a used X for 829 not too long ago and it’s still getting updates.

If an old device and feature is what you need to make music, why would you abandon that because the newer version does x differently? Please don't pretend like Ableton, Studio One and Logic plus the infinite amount of midi controllers you alluded to don't have their own problems. You certainly will not find Nirvana in that alternative of possibilities you listed. We live in imperfect times. There will be no perfect device in your lifetime. Be content with maybe in 100000 years, humans will make perfect technology.

I agree with you if you use legacy mpc in controller mode.. yes they still get support but plugins are getting larger and 2gb of ram will be a struggle

I haven't seen any announcements for things changing... but did the gen 1's get dropped for support? Or is this just speculation about something that we all can assume will *eventually* come true?

Nothing announced i was saying plugins data is increasing and will be almost impossible in the future to load with the current spitfire plugins you can only load 2 instances

What OP described is not gaslighting. “Slipshod” means a lazy careless action without effort to be correct, which is what OP did by conflating “gaslighting” and bald face lying.

“Conflating” sort of means mixing two tbings up and subbing the wrong one in.

“Gaslighting” is an effort to drive a person crazy by lying to them and pretending it’s true. Not what Akai is doing which is akin to a bald faced lie.

Rumors that Akai might be shoving Ram up the buttocks to get it to users in the future though.. just a rumor.
