I cannot think of any FM synth that is quick to program and doesn't have a lot of options ;)

I can:

:-D
but its not for sale, and not strictly fm but a more complex 3d modulation.
you can see the interface briefly at the end of the video
iirc it was designed for 4 × 4 knobs including fx
reminds me that I could revive the project
- can the mpc send midi cc with the q-link knobs?

That what macro are. You can assign 100s of parameters the any of the different macros like knobs, XYFX, Pads, touchstrip & crossfader... The 2 project macros both have 16 knobs & can assign any of the assignable parameters across the project & the track is 16 knobs per track. You can quickly assign a parameter to all 128 pads if you have Edit All on while using MIDI-Learn. Once again, macros are the way!

have to look into this.

for now I have an other problem,

I bought opx, but I cant activate it in MPC One 2.15.

"Could not validate license from server ( license status 8. )."

And the help bot hallucinates something about iLok when I ask support.

The product shows in my account, however.

I assume they copy this to different servers and databases before you can connect.
Still not an explanation why this takes so long, unless they make the data exchange only every hour or so.
What ever, they could simply add a note "this can take up an hour or longer" instead of using a stupid AI that wants to fix your nonexistant iLok problem.
An experience that was both dystopian and funny, you have to demand to "talk to a human" in the dialogue to get a support ticket, but its not like the bot connects you immediately.
Its first asking you a bunch of extra questions, like sphinx in a fairytale.
Scary, all that. Even more scary is how it sums up the conversation for the human support, cause thats in a very different tone.
We need more music that comments on the 5h17 thats happening these days, but I am not the right artist for that.

I have a Launch control (Not the new one) with 3 banks of 32 controls assigned to it. This really changes how hands on the the OPX is. It's a shame you can't load midi mapping in as a set, so all the assignment are made in one template project I have to use if I want to use the launch control. It's by far the most powerful synth inside the MPC, although I guess the recent wavetable and oscillator additions bring that into question.

EDIT: I know my 3 bank set up sounds a bit nuts, and overwhelming, but it's quite the opposite, and intuitive. If you think of each bank as 2 groups of 16, that's 6 groups. The 4 faders at the bottom of a group are ADSR, the four knobs above adjust the ADSR there curves, and with one group per envelope, that 8 controls assigned the same 6 times. The top 4 knobs are the matrix for operator 1, with the shapers on the row below, and that repaet 4 times. So everything is intuitive, so much so I bought second (and yes I'm thinking of a third, so I can have all 3 banks accessed t the same time).

You're a macro maniac
This reminds me, I have a BCR2000 that I still need to set up.

and it reminds me that my qlink knobs are faulty...

which is a bit annoying with this synth, but you still can put in the values numerically with the screen.

my concern that the synth engine has too many options proved true though,
didnt make any music yet but I am still fiddling with the same sound since hours...

also I am not sure if the effects submix per operator is genius or just an odd idea
and those effects are pretty quiet, as if full level isnt full 100 wet.
possible theres something i am not getting right yet
:hmmm:

I put some dioxit fader cleaner in a syringe and released a small amount into the where the shaft enters the the body of the encoder, and twisted loads. That fixes my q-links for a while. I was getting messed getting an answer about supplying new encoders from the Vietnamese supplier, so decided to wait till I was back in the UK, then 4 weeks before I returned InMusic said there is an 8 week lead time.

I just treat it as a 2 group submix mixer and ignore the the limited third one, so operators go into one or the other other, or both.

no, I havent, thanks for the link, excellent thread.

While I am quite firm with fm per se I still have to figure out the oddities of this synth.

Early in the thread you mention the ratios, havent read all of the thread yet, just in case this isnt solved
later on, you usually want just ratios, not equal temperament ratios, as these are always off.
Offset in fm gives beating, if you add an offset of 2 hz for instance, the ratio isnt exactly just anymore and therefore starts beating at 2 hz, for instance in a piano theres a slow beating and this is how you make sure it stays the same speed across all octaves.
if you add the offset as detune to the ratio otoh, it will get faster at higher pitches.

have to read more in your thread though, spent the last few hours with trying to figure outbstuff,
and also noticed that results can be difficult in the mix, got a sound I like but its very heavy on bass notes.

now I am off to reading more in your thread.

glad I bought the synth, but its realky eating my time i wanted to spend with making music...
