I don't think it matters, if you're talking about software. It's pretty much up to your knowledge of the program you're using and your creativity. As far as hardware goes, I'm not sure because I don't use a hardware sampler.

I think to an extent it matters what records you use. For example, if you're going for that soul type of sound or jazzy feel I think it will matter more than if you were doing some type of electronic music. You're going to have to sample according to what genre you're producing for. There is always leeway, but the more you stray from the 'norm' the more you'll have to let your creativity take over. You can sample anything, really. If you're really good at sampling you can sample from any source, but if you're just starting out you're going to frustrate yourself if you don't have the right samples to practice on because you'll be sampling the wrong things all the time for the sound you're trying to get.

because can take a wack samole and it in the right places then voila
a friend mine was complaining that im only sweet because of the samples i use but i dont loop samples cuz that just straight bitten so i used all his samples and sh*tted on him its all in your ears

the whole argument of " i can flip any shitty sample from a crappy record and make it sound dope" is just wrong.

its mad RARE that you hear a DOPE beat that has been flipped from a WEAK record. i didn't say impossible i said rare.

its also rare that you hear a "keyboard" beat that has "soul" or "funk" or just that raw grimy dirty hip-hop sound that we all grew up loving.

neptunes, timbaland, sometimes dre kill it with the composed keyboard beats. Yall aren't them.

we are at the mercy of our samples MOST OF THE TIME. there are always exceptions.
