MPC1k & Reason

Could someone pleez explain how to sequence Reason from the MPC..

I'd like to assign each (reason) module to a midi track on the mpc, so that for example I'd have Redrum on midi track 1, Dr.Rex on midi 2, Substractor on 3...etc


btw, Reason3 is really sweet, a lot of fresh new sounds..

here's my midi tutorial.

picked up 3 components - an M-Audio Uno, an MPC1k (yeeah) and reason.

next, attatch your uno. make sure your cables are going to the right ins and outs of the mpc (simple mistake but easily made). attatch the usb to a BACK USB PORT (not front or hub, this in fact makes a difference in latency issues).

next, go out into the street and kick an old man's ass - just because you can. trust me, they did the same thing when they were our age.

now, open reason. go to edit, preferences, and scroll down to midi. select your midi interface (mine is the uno, of course) and select channel 1.

now, scroll down in the preference bar to Advanced midi. select your midi interface for everything, again. then hit ok.

now, open a mixer, redrum and an nnxt. load a favorite instrument in each. then go to the top of your rack, above the mixer, where it says MIDI IN DEVICE. in the horizontal channel one bar, select redrum. in the 2nd channel bar, select your nnxt.

above that, in the very top center, it should say BUS SELECT. select A, if it's not already. the green "led" beside it should say In USB MIDI 1x1 or whatever your specifics are.

now, you should be able to tap keys and get sound. but what's tha pause? f*ck, latency!! we can't have that.

go back to preferences and open up audio. drag the buffer size latency bar hard to the left. mine is now at 2560 - no sound quality is degraded, noticeably. i could still rock a show with minimal latency, nobody would notice.

and i am able to control reason. i am in midi heaven.

Am I going Midi OUT A on MPC to Midi IN on my M-audio AudioPhile?

I am not getting any response when I hit a mpc pad within reason. Any configuration on the mpc needed?

yes - in the main screen, select the track you want to use for midi. go to the bottom left where it says DRUM and select MIDI instead. move to the bottom right and select channel one, or whatever channel you put your instrument on the top of the reason hardware page.

I know someone left something out. Good looking out. Going from ASR -10 to MPC1k in baby steps here.
but I got one thing to say. NO MORE SCSI!!!! yeaAah

the TRICKy fk that i forgot was to turn on midichannel 1 or 2 or 3 down in the right corner!

however, i did notice something wierd when using the note repeat on substractor and malstrom: the sounds retrigger, but the release seems to be infinite, forcing me to press stop on the reason sequencer to stop the sounds from playing. This has nothing to do with the enveloppe settings since the sounds play fine when played normally by the pads or keys...

another annoyance is the abstract midi layout of the mpc pads when trying to play melodies, but thats an old issue i guess

Sorry to be a pain guys but I too have Reason 3 and MPC 1k etc and have followed the above tutorial.

I have sound coming out of my pc through reason (which is something I guess), but I cannot get the midi laid down in the sequencer.

I will be bashing away on the mpc, I can hear what I am doing, I have record selected in reason (and I have tried pushing record on the MPC) but it just wont lay anything down in the sequencer.

What am I doing wrong???? any help would be great!!!

P.S I have the right track selected in reason as well with the keyboard clicked to say its ready to recieve midi instructions.
