how are you guys creating drum rolls/fills with your 60s?

are you mostly sampling drum rolls or creating your own by messing with time signatures/tempo changes and banging 'em out yourself?

i can't really remember any specific drum rolls from hiphop tracks that i'd like to emulate but i know they're out there.

also, has anyone heard someone really get down on a 60 (or any other MPC really) like their drum sequences sounded like a live drummer? do you mess with swing settings for this?

just curious. thanks!

p.s. sometimes i think the old BDP 808 (?) drum rolls/fills sound good but that's not really the sound i'm after. they kinda sound cheesy ya know what i'm sayin? they sound too robotic/computer-like, when i'm looking for the live drum kit sound.

Hold Timing Correct at different values on different tracks with varying velocity.

For instance, 1/16 Snare on one track at 127 Vel, then 16 1/3 on another with 90 vel.

Try that, with variations

i'm not following this statement. what do you mean by "16 1/3?"

thanks.

Hmmmm, ok I guess i was assuming too much. Get back in the manual.

if you have real honest rhythm, you can assign your snare to 3 or 4 pads in a row horizontally and bang out your own drums rolls. you might need to change decays or velocity to get it to sound semi real.

Even then you would still have to know what timing correct and 16 1/3 means. There isnt much of a roll at 1/8 no matter if you had your snare on all 64 pads and 128 hands :).

Imma try that one james, I haven't really pimped 16 levels for decay much at all. I mostly use the slider, but I love 16 levels for pitch and velocity.

the mpc60 doesnt have a "roll" button???

yup, it's the timing correct button, when in play it will roll at the timing correct setting.
