getting a turntable-help please

OK well I've been locked up in my room since my Spring Break started and I now think I've got a good grasp on my mpc1000. I've sampled cd's and have created 3 full songs using just the mpc1000.

Now I want to take it a step further and start sampling from records. I've been doing some research via search function, and I think I have the basic idea but I need some help.

Would it be better for me to get a turntable with a digital out? That way my sample would be recorded into the mpc1000 w/o any static or anything.

Would this be all i need to sample?:
turntable with a digital out
phono preamp
mpc1000

OK I read another post about the Stanton str8-80 and they said it doesnt require a preamp or mixer, it could just plug straight into your mpc. Should I pick up this tt and just the tt alone?

u could get the stanton or the numark ttx1 its up to u if u dont want to buy a mixer. also the portable numark pt-01 for $99 dollars

And thanks morgan, that cleared up a lot for me. ! more question though, since i wont need a preamp if i get a table with a digital out, should i still get a dj mixer so i can filter out some sounds i wouldnt want?

u can do that on the mpc, it has 4 band EQ, overall EQ, and hi, and low passes

In my humble opinion, i would say go with a low-end deck, even belt-drive if you're only looking to chop wax, and i don't know if you have the budget, but a basic pre-amp as well... i got my vestax 05-pro hooked up to my decks and i run from my mixer into my 1k... works beautifully and i can e.q. my sample from my mixer (has two channels with hi's / lo's / gain) and then master whatever on my 1k...

as far as cutting out static... no doubt tracks sound clean when you're sampling c.d.'s, but let us not forget that vinyl captures the soul of a lot of music... me personally i love the unique sounds you feel from a clean piece of vinyl... a little bit of static (i'm talking minimal) coming through on my samples doesn't bother me at all and in fact i like it... it's just a personal style... having said that i don't want the **** to sound like a broken record!

buck back to the deck... i think having one hooked up to your 1k is essential because once you expand your horizons into the world of wax, you're entering an endless array of sounds and samples you might not otherwise be able to find on c.d. / mp3, whatever...

then comes digging...

I hear static in some of Kanye's samples. I dont mind it too much, it makes the track sound like it's playing off a record.

yeah i dont mid that static sometimes. I sometimes make my drums and snares have that staticy sound to make them sound grimey

Get a RIIA preamp (turntablepreamp) for like 30 bux or less... Its small and not with alot of crap on it.

If you want a cheaper alternative, go out and get the Numark PT01

You can't really scratch with it, BUT you don't need a preamp/mixer and you can carry it wherever you want. This is espescially great when you go diggin. You don't wanna buy crummy records

I don't understand why you think that. Sampling is to get the sound off a record, sound still comes out of the digital outs. I could see if there was NO sound coming outta the digitals outs, then that would defeat the purpose.

why wouldnt you just sample off cd's if you were going for that quality sound

i love sampling off records for the fact that it sounds rough around the edges..

If the record is old and scratchy you would STILL get that old scratchy sound. Yes, I've used one of my boys turntables with digi out to his 2kxl digi in and the record scratchy adn griminess was STILL there.

The digital outs are still representing the original signal.
It may be a little louder and use headroom more effectivley/efficiently.
