The thing is, it's weird to me to consider digging as some weird little subculture that's just on the side.....and that it's nerdy.
The whole hiphop music culture is born out of digging.
Afrika Bambaataa and Kool Herc weren't downloading MP3's and buying Dusty Fingers.
They invented this, and digging was an integral part of it.
Only now in the year 2005 with our short memories and DSL can people dis digging and call it a nerd thing. People were digging to make all those classic tracks we all love.
Plus, where do you think those break .wav files came from? Somebody put in the elbow grease to dig all that shtt up!
I'm not saying don't sample these .wavs, or commenting on the validity of doing that or not.........I'm just saying let's remember how this all got started and respect the art form and its origins. None of us would probably even own samplers if it wasn't for the OG beat diggers.
