stop tryin so hard. sit back and let it come to you. experiment wit some samples n drums for the phuk of it. save whateva sounds good. take some time to learn ya machine and chill out. dont be so hell bent on makin fiya seein that its been a minute for ya. take it easy bro. sometimez ya just gotta chill and analyze the situation before you looze ya coo or get discouraged. you kno sometimes listenin to others music can kinda cramp you up, im not sayin dont listen to anything (i rarely do because of that) but always remember that you also make music.

You should just give up...Just kidding. What other gear are you using? I didnt get writters block till i started using synths and shit. When i have writters block ill play with arpegiators, or listen to a album i dig and mimic the parts that i like.

Also if I try to make a certain track... I get fustrated and will stop, but if i relax and just make whatever comes out, it usually better then when i say i am gonna make an angry track, or sad track, or an in the club joint.

try a different approach to how you normally do. start backwards or something. helps me get my mind fresh. go listen to some absolutly lame ass hiphop and it will inspire you to burn it.

no doubt.. its best just to relax and let shit come to you.. try using sounds that you normally wouldn't think would fit in a hip-hop track.. like a Tibetan Antalope accordian or whatever. New drum sounds a must. Organization a must.

y'all wrong! ... this is very simple: you gotta respect nature and the way of live: MAN ITS SUMMER! every place is full of sexy ladies and partiy allover .... so who the fukk wants to stay at home to be creative?! this is absolutely normal and happens every year! keep ya vinyl for later, shut down your mpc and damn! forget about madillo! ... all the hot tracks for this summer are out anyways .... you too late for this one (yo - me too btw!) ... now get ya ass out befo its too late and enjoy it! its sooner over as ya think! ... you gotta respect this ... there s many long and then neverending winter month in arrive to write some hot ish for the next one...

I once saw a Dj Shadow interview where he said something that i think is really true. He said beat making is like a muscle.
You said you haven't made much for a year or so. You got to exercise the muscle and keep it fit. It's the same for every thing, think of a footballer who hasn't played in a year or a golfer. They're not going to walk out after doing nothing for a year and play their best game.

Shadow was talking about making the private press. he hadn't made beats in a long time cause he was on tour etc. He thought to himself he'd never match the UNKLE album and felt all pressured

sounds to me like you are putting the pressure on yourself. You say you're on the verge of something great?

You'll never do anything great if you think you're going to sit down and making the best sht ever because you are trying to see the finished beat and don't start with a great sample or nice kick or snare or whatever.
You got to just build it slow, relax and try just working on some sounds first. These'll probably inspire the whole beat.

In shadow case he decided to do something as technical as possible a forget about the musical aspect, that was monosylabic which he made fromm a single two bar loop.

This sht happens me from time to time and i find making sounds works. Just sit down and work for a couple of hours on making nice kicks snares, whatever and then they'll be ready for when it comes back to you.

Good luck

Yake into consideratio what everyone saud. But sometimes with high expectataions, and too much pressure ='s frustrations. Which seems to be what u r going thru. I've been there, sh@t I think I'm still there. Except I was comin up w/ alot of issh and then nothin. I tend to put too much on myself. I'm learning eversince I went solo from my crew jus to enjoi everything, and let what happens happen. Its hard b/c I'm really competitive. So in my mind I think If I'm not makin beats or writin rhymes someone else is, meaning they're gettin that edge on me. I know its not the right mentality, but at the same time its what pushes me to get better, and tryin to aim to perfect this craft we call hip hop music. Jus relax bro. baby steps

I've been doing this lately, and I've been inspired just by reading.

sounds like a case of 'back to basics'

u need to find ur musical 'isness' - what made u love makin beats in the first place and try holdin on and building on that - serious
