As for pointing out samples.. so what? I flipped mad Italian OST's before Madlib. Doesn't make his material any less crediable or dope. I hope no one is gassed because they are paying $50-100+ dollars for some record all the UK Hip-Hop heads have beat to death. Digging is a trend that goes in cycles, it's always been that way. As far as flipping "known" records, if you can do it better, or take a different portion, do it up. Hip-Hop is lacking right now anyhow, people need to revitalize the old for the new generation to hear.
all im sayin is, no one really digs anymore. they loop up the same ol soul shit. even if you can flip a known joint why would you promote that to beatmakers?? the bottom line is you should still be digging (in my opinion). of course theres gonna be a few dope beats using known records, but still..why not DIG?? why would you settle for making a dope beat which diggers can easily spot the sample, instead of making a dope beat with an obscure sample that leaves other beatmakers scratchin there heads. it doesnt make sense to me. when i hear a common loop that i came across as a digger its like, comon money dig harder. i guess i take the crate excavating real serious like. you wont catch madlib (or myself) loopin up no aretha franklin!
if you have the ability to make a dope beat in the first place, then theres no reason you shouldn't be digging for 'other' shit. this is just my opinion though, not a declaration of internet war
