like I said its not that serious, I just get a bit heated when cats wanna act hard online when they really punk azz bytches (offline).
But yeah, like it or not 50 cent is da man. Hands down he makes the catchiest hooks, he never made a wack song in his life, get rich or die trying is easily the album of the year (dont believe me look it up). Plus the G Unit album is bout to drop and I could assure you that that shyt is going several times platinum in a matter of weeks.
I mean I could understand why you would hate him (he's rich, extremely successful and he got the rap game on lock)

I ain't actin hard, I'm just voicing my opinion.

Rap isn't a game, it's an art. 50 isn't an artist, he's a scam man, all the exposure and $$ that puts his mshit up 24-7 is what has him at the top of the list of easily brainwashed masses.

You sound kinda young, so I guess it just what you are exposed to that may limit you. but the Rap 'game' is at an all time low on the airwaves, and it needs to come back with some inovation. I don't have to like it, but there is a reason people stopped saying 'Fresh'.

Not serious, just stating my opinion. I don't mean to pick on you, but you turned this thread into TRL real fast.

You be following me around and shyt and contradicting me but its all good. Just dont hate the playa, hate the game. and by the way I eat, shyt and sleep rap music and I take it very serious.
heres why I respect 50 cent, da man kept it real since he came in the game, it aint like he switched up his style, he always been a bragadocio, gangsta rapper, the only difference now is that he got eminem and dre on his side so now hee's the guy everybody loves to hate. the only songs i dont like from him is that "21 questions" and that "P.I.M.P". dont get it f*cked up I love real hip hop like dj. premier and 9th wonder, but I'm also a street n*gga so I could relate to what 50 cent be spitting, thus him being one of my favorite rappers. But to each its own.

Age dont have nothing to do with it. I'm 19 and I could assure that I rather listen to old school artists like A Tribe Called Quest, (Midnight Marauders is my shyt and the rest of they shyt), Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Gangstarr etc.. But the future is now and quite frankly hip hop is dead. The only nigguz still making quality hip hop now-a-days is 9th Wonder(gods stepson is classic) and Dj. Premier and a few others but those are the only ones i'm really feeling as far as "authentic" hip hop is concerned.

............my thoughts on 50..........

50 cent is a joke. Most of the shady artists are shyt in my opinion.
The only thing even remotely usuable from 50 cent is the phrase: (It's your birf-day) Obie Trice is much better than 50 cent and dude(50) cannot flow live.

Lifesavas is the future of hiphop, not this shady shyt. I agree 100% with elmacaco. Start following the CMJ Hip Hop charts, and leave the trends for the byrds.

Y'all could think what you want cause he's still gonna keep going platinum (get rich or die tryin 6X platinum in the us and still counting ) wether y'all like him or not. I aint gonna keep defending 50 cent cause in reality 50 cent got mad money and I aint getting a cent for defending him while he gives away hummers and platinum chains. But hey, i'm not a hater I just know how to appreaciate "hot" music.

Obie Trice???? you cant be serious. I mean he's second best rapper/producer next to Kanye West (excluding old school rappers/producer who retired or vanished) but he aint better than 50 Cent.
and even Obie Trice himself is on 50 cent D*ck (peep how he featured him in his album for the hottest song in there "Hustler"). I mean even Eminem, possibly the greatest lyricist of all time even says "50 Cent is my favorite rapper".

Y'all niggus is so close minded that you try so hard to be "real" and bash comercially successful rappers. I mean y'all must be broke. BALLER MUSIC IS STRICTLY FOR BALLERS. IF YOU AINT BALLING (YOUR BROKE) THEN DONT LISTEN TO 50 CENT ("i'll teach you how to stunt..."), or other BALLERS such as Jay-Z and the Big Tymers, etc.

Just a thought...Notice how jay-Z (one of the greatest of all time) hopped on 50 cent d*ck ("Roc the mic tour") Even after having beef with 50 cent (Jacking for jay-z -by 50 Cent and Jay- z's reply - "I'm about a dollar what the f*ck is 50 Cents")....That could only mean 50 Cent "got the rap game on lock"...

P.S. Hate is very unhealthy and y'all got it in your blood.

P.P.S. I Proved my point, case closed, no more replys from me on this particular post so have fun "Haters".

I’m enjoying this thread. you guys are really on opposite sides of the spectrum. As a former backpacker who, quoting the last emporer “smoked my brain cells away, and followed hip hop like a cult”….I know good music, quality music, the classics, etc. But hip hop has definitely changed…as our society as a whole and our values have changed. The reason Brand Nubian’s “slow down” used to be a club banger back when it came out and wouldn’t’ be now..is because as a people…we are different..we are on some materialistic shit. People change w/ the times.

I will say this…in defense of the ‘street n*gga” perspective…a LOT of underground cats, or “purists”..including my own partner in rhyme and some of my affiliates…hate on commercial artists for NO reason(I used to be one of them). its close minded. And honestly…50 is not a scam…true there is a lot of marketing involved, and industry BS which makes people like ras kass, keith murray, canibus, vakil, murs (too many to name, ..from all over the country too)… broke and alienated…while wack n*ggas w/ no talent get million doller deals..…BUT the fact remains that when your objective is to make music for your people to bump to, have fun to, etc….(which is what hip hp & music is about)…50 does it well. He goes into the studio…glorifies his thug image, and yet makes quality songs. A lotta underground cats drop albums that are “pure”..but honestly not too good sometimes. I’ll bump “get rich or die tryin” in my car right now over the new JAYLIB (with the exception of a few tracks..i.e. ‘lapdance’’nowadayz”). Good music is good music…just keep making it..and don’t hate on other people’s “ish” just because they are getting there’s.

pS…I love it when people have both INI “Center of Attention” or ‘FANTASTIC VOL2’ as well as DIPLOMATS LP or the latest GUNIT mix tape bumpin in they ride. Its all taste..but I urge all to diversify before you dismiss other peoples music as garbage. It’s all love in here. Keep the forum going.

PS...rickreed...you're right..we did overlook JAYDEE...dude is rediculous on production. pick up 'J.YANCEY UNRELEASED REMIXES'...CRAZY PIECE OF VINYL...A BUNCH OF RANDOM JAYDEE REMIXES...OH MY GOOODNESS.(makes me wonder why i even mess with production...he on anotehr level...if u like soulful hip hop that thumps)

can I GET A WITNESS FROM THE CONGREGATION! hahahaha

to R DA MASTER

calm down money.
50 cent pulls very little respect among the hip-hop set, and LOTS from the "rap" set, as you said, you live and breathe RAP, and therein lies the disagreement, rap is not hip-hop, rap is a hip hop term hijacked by Tipper Gore back in the day to use as an all encompassing term for "gangsta rap" instead of what it REALLY means "the music of Hip-Hop culture". Now young cats dont really know the difference, and its not they fault, its the mass media what done it.

I seriously doubt you are a "baller" on the level of Jigga or 50 pesos, and to say "balla music is for ballas" is like sayin "hip hop is not for white people" its the same kind of thing, take what you can take from the music, whatever it is (yes it is just music, I dont care how many times 50 cent got shot, he is not a real thug. Harry - O now that is a REAL thug, real thugs only end up 2 places: dead or in Jail.)

I also do not hate on aritsts just cuz they mainstream, Ima cat who gets home and throws on a copy of MMM anti-theft device, but I still know that 50 pesos got some spits. and HOw to Rob can still make me laugh "Run up on missi and timbaland with the pound like 'you gimmie the cash, you! put the hotdog down'"
BUT I do know that 50's Image is all made up, and that he is trying to get paid like everyone else, which is why I think underground heads hate, the UG cats still wanna get paid, but they are the one who wanna do it "on they own terms" and not flip who they are to sell records. Rass gets MAJOR RESPECT from me for this and if you see him live, he is a truly gifted MC, he should be on def poetry with his ish.
It seems to me the mainstream forces artists to behave certain ways to sell. Shyne is a good example, he aint no thug, and he has security, so why is he carrying a burner? cuz that is the "image" the publicist cultivates for him.

Eminiem the GREATEST LYRICIST? C'mon man, I remember when I said that W. Marisialles was the best jazz musican ever at one point, then I started listening to Charlie Parker...my bad I was just a youngsta then, see there is this cat called "the Brooklyn Dumper" aka "the black Frank White" aka "Biggie Smalls" who could and would have destroyed ANY cat you put in front of him in a battle then go put on a suit and wreck the club. Dont front, the GREATEST RAPPER/MC OF ALL TIME DIED ON MARCH 9th. (JAda, LOX we'll always lvoe Big Poppa). C'mon, Rakim? PAc? I can name a list of people waaayy better the M&M, so c'mon I know you dont really mean that dog.

all in all, y'all need to give the young cat a break, I mean, even if he's been hip hoppin since he was 9, that was still 1993, and he dont have the breadth of experience some cats have. YO R, If you aint heard it, I would go pick up Soul on Ice by rass-kass and the new Dilated Peoples album AND give em a listen, they'll blow ur mind.

Tribe called quest is old school? Not to me!

That's music from the peak.

Old school is Dana Dane, Busy Bee, Doug E. Fresh and shit. Old school is not relative, it is like 'Modernism' it is a name for a specific period of an art (music or thought)

Capitalism is supposed to improve the quality of everything by MArket forces pushing development of a supirior commodity. hence competition. Fifty cent does not compete in an open market, it is a private market in which the majors use all the 'ballers' like Pawns.

Foo, he was serious!!!

Like I said, you are young.

I agree. That really bothers me when I'm watching 106 and park and they play an old skool joint and it happens to be a song from 5-6 years ago.
Old skool to me is BDP, Juice Crew, Lord finesse, Donald D, Run DMC, and classic LL. Back when it was all about originality and biters were frowned upon. Remember back in the day you couldn't come out with a beat sounding anything like someone else's? That was LAW. Now everyone is d*ck riding with these beats that sound like anthems to TV shows with sped up soul voices in them and stuttering kicks. Rap is wack to me and it's up to beatmakers like us to bring the originality and individuality back to "hip-hop" music. F*ck rap. Y'all can keep that

word, BET played hypnotize on old skool wed. and I was like, man dis isnt old skool, its CLASSIC, old skool is like the peeps said "no mistakes allowed cuz to me MC means move the crowd" UNNGGG make em clap to this.........

but man if young dude was serious man I really feel badly that the future of hip hop has been taken in by the bling bling set, which is clearly a mass market/corporate means to take back control of hip-hop milk it for what its worth then whenit goes cheezy get something new ( a la rock and roll) thank god for cats like the bedroom producers and real hip-hoppers, I hate to quote a BS corporate Sprite ad but....
"here's to that kid with an MP3 who's gona take it to the next level"
I'm waiting...........

Yeah, IMMATURE is NOT old skool at all. 106 and park got it all twisted, but then again they are playing for a younger generation who might now be familiar with rapping duke, bobby jimmy and the critters, uncle jamms army and egyptian lover, pretty tony butler, jamie jupitor and peeps like that. So yeah, they are playing for the masses majority, teenboppers who try and cripwalk but don't know the half of what it means. Wearing big chains at home in the room but scared to wear them out in the park. And God forbid the teen in his bedroom with the MPC4k trying to KEEP IT REAL and OLD SKOOL by tapping out beats mimmicking Puffy's first CD. But what can I say.
