but being able to bring a group of sounds down in the mix together should be pretty standard for a sampler, especially if its a multi-sampled intrument program. adjusting individual pads is tedious with instrument programs.
As far as putting different sounds on separate tracks, I think it would be easier to mix your sounds by having your sound in a single track than on individual tracks, cause the mix window is for individual tracks. especially if there's a way to select more than one pad at a time to adjust mix level, like you mentioned. then again muting individual sounds using the pads is pretty nice.
I think it would be ideal if the track volume couild be controlled by an external midi controller. Until then, there's using outboard gear...
