You HAVE to give Paul as much respect, if not more though......because he wrote the book on sampling. He didn't just influence Rza, he changed the whole landscape of hiphop, and made Rza's innovations possible. With 3 Ft. High & Rising, he opened the door which every other producer including us has gone through. Before that album, people were only sampling James Brown loops, and maybe some other funk breaks.....but Prince Paul flipped the script and opened everyone's minds to basically sample any and every style - and still be hiphop. Just listen to the albums and singles that came out before 3ft. High.......then listen to everything that came out after that. There's almost a visible line there dividing the two eras.
Oh yeah, and Prince Paul invented the hiphop skit with that record as well. Any hiphop record with skits (including The Wu) is a product of Paul's innovation.
I mean, looking back from this point, it's hard to have perspective on that record.......but at the time it came out - it sounded sooooo different and new and innovative - it blew my mind.
Don't get me wrong, respect due to Rza, because he's been innovative and influencial himself.........., it's kinda like Rza walked on the moon too -- but Prince Paul discovered the moon.
