Thriller is one of the most popular albums of all time... top 2 or 3 in sales by a solo artist if I'm not mistaken. Quincy Jones didn't play a single note on the album. Every instrument played was played by a session musician. Does that make him less of a producer?
The producer's job is to direct all of the musicians involved. I'm under the impression that the people that assist Kanye(& Dre & every other hip hop producer that uses sessions musicians) do so under his directions. I assume he tells them what to play, what type of feel he wants, ect, just like Quincy Jones would do.
We all can only assume what really goes on. If anyone here knows him personally and can say that he's not acting as a producer, by all means shed some light on the situation. But until then, some of y'all are trippin'.
are the two peeps that i can remember that i personally agree with the most because they took a lot of what i was going to say in reading all of these post.... but what i am going to add is that personally it doesnt matter what we think as a whole, it all matters what the record sales numbers show, i know some of you thinking, "we entitiled to our own opinon." yea are but it really aint worth sh.t if you helping the world to go round. Meaning right now, believe it or not, most of us are trying to get mainstream, or at least paid, yeah, we all have a love for music, but you gotta be in idiot if you just wanna stay underground or local cause you think the cats are real underground... yea, they "real" aight, "real" broke.....aint nobody trying to be broke all they life, trying to keep the title "hip hop" under the name cause they dont wanna be called pop... why does it matter if u are called pop, if thats what you do, then do it, thats the artist in you. But the funny part is, back when Kanye when Kanye was just a beat maker, before he became an artist, some of you forgot about he produced for the one the biggest peeps in Hip Hop Jay Z, but he is Pop....
if you all didnt notice, the consumer community as a whole will be the determining factor whether or not how great this album will become...
personally my thoughts on the album, i think as far as an artist its not a bad album, as far as mainstream, i dont think popularity wise it will do as great at the last album, but again, thats my opinion....
but i overall do respect the work that Kanye has done as an overall producer/artist...and he deserves every right in the world to talk all the sh.t he wants(just like Prince can walk around in heels/stilletos and still f.ck all the chicks he want), he and any other artist in the industry has the right too brag all they want cause they know they have made it somewhere were a lot of peeps work all there life to get too and never make it... it doesnt matter if u think they the worst rapper, producer, singer, or whatever... they are there and you can only respect it, because someone is giving them there money to be there, whether is a record label or their particular artist and they make the world of music go round
