NO, this will not be yet another kanye thread. We're talking 60's 3000's, and lazy newbies,

Support Kanye's act of civil disobediance and lay off the guy's music, right now it's about his statement.

don't get this wrong, i like kanye's beats and all, but in no way is he making the best beats right now!

Word. That's purely subjective.

I wish it had proper undo....
sometimes in stepedit things dont turn out the way you want it and undo is pretty usefull there..

I say : vote yes for undo on mpc3000 OS3.5! ;)

If you don't like what you just played then you could consider to:

a) delete the track and enter your part again.
b) delete the bum event from a track and enter it again. ( in real, offline or step mode )
c) select a locate range and punch in and out of record in cycle mode to practice playing and maybe entering the offending section of a track correctly.
d) go into step edit and fix up the dud event within said track.
e) use the edit loop function in conjunction with methods above.

The bonus about most of these methods above is that you get an opportunity to keep that "bad take" which may only in fact be 5 percent bad.

IE: You can fix a section of the track without undo-ing and deleting all those bits that were correct and would otherwise be lost with an UNDO feature.

Just a thought.

Rohan.

PS: As for the MPC2000XL's "UNDO SEQ" feature. I wonder why AKAI never included a "RE-DO SEQ" feature ???

Thank you Rohan!

I just don;t get how people would want less control than they already have.

Stop wishing and Learn your machines people.

Yea, i know you can edit your stuff this way. I've been doing it on the 2k xl since forever.

One thing im considered about is when I record midi with after touch and such, you might want to do some editing in step edit and delete/move dozens of events around.
Now if it isn't at all what you wanted you'd want to simpy undo a batch of changes at the same time. Since you have no clue at all where all these events originally were w/o grabbing a pad and writing it all down, the undo button is real nice for this (atleast was real dope on the 2k xl). I mostly add notes to tracks on the fly by simple overdub too. It speeds sh!t up if all you gotta do after a bad take is press one button, instead of going into step editing, looking for the new notes and erasing em. I mostly become confused with the original notes and the new ones that way. Only way I can think to get around of some of this is to use dedicated tracks for everything. So in the end you can just merge tracks.... that still doesnt change the fact that the press of one button is like 2-3 times as fast as , delete-choose note-choose track, choose range of time etc..

just my 2 c
I guess the standpoint is just different when you don't come from the 60

that's when you take option A and delete the track.

By 2wice Mon Sep 05, 2005 9:07 pm
Not really a bad question, you just did'nt do your research. MPC3000LE gave you good options, others gave you good advice - The more you read the manual the better you'll understand your machine. With more experience on your MPC you'll probably define a standard workflow that will be efficient for you.

If the 60 had an undo button I probably wouldn't use it, I go with new tracks for everything, and it's easier to keep track of what's on a track than when the undo will start.

You guys are brutal. My momma always said,'If you don't have nothing nice to say..than don't say it at all."

We can modify that by saying...if you don't have nothing useful to post...than don't post at all. There will always be newbies that post what may appear to be silly or stupid. In no way am I saying that this was a stupid question. No question is stupid from a teaching stand point. If you do not want to answer a question...than don't answer it. Simply writing...just read the manual can be considered silly and stupid. We are not forced to read these posts...we do so because we want/enjoy doing so. There is no need to look down on catz with less knowledge. You can choose to help get them where you are at...or just ignore the post.

No, the MPC 3000 doesn't have an undo feature like all the newer MPCs. It would be nice..but Akai has since moved on from the MPC 3000 and most likely will never add any software/hardware updates. It does not profit them in anyway...especially when they want you to buy the next generation MPCs...

You can live without the undo function by using the advice already listed above by MPC Tutor members that actually gave useful information.

I hope you catz don't take this reply the wrong way. I am only here to help and because I enjoy doing so.

Peace.

Whilst AKAI isn't updating the software any more and to be fair; never wrote it's OS in the first place ...

... It doesn't mean that a third party isn't coming to the rescue.

With this point raised.

Roger Linn Design is quite happily hosting this link:

http://www.rogerlinndesign.com/other/links.shtml

Which points to the http://www.mpc3000.com/updated_os.htm page hosted courtesy of Mike Goins.

Thank heavens for third party after market support.

Peace.

Rohan.

PS: More OS news coming soon.

Akai designed the MPC. They hired Roger Linn to help design the sequencers OS. Akai is just the name of the company. They hire workers to develop the products. With all the recent MPCs starting from the MPC 2000, they felt they didn't need Roger Linn's services anymore. So now they have a new team of programmers........

There is third party support that have put out recent free OS upgrades...but it is not Roger Linn..and these upgrades are not that useful to me to risk putting them in my MPC 3000. There is only so much you can do with the OS in the MPC 3000..because programmers are limited to the hardware that was designed/manufactured in the early 90s.....let's see if we can get Windows XP working on PII based PC...

Fo real though......the MPC 3000 is fine that way it is.

While I agree that the 3000 / 60 is fine the way it is, I welcome 3rd party developers making alternative OS's for them.

jahrome, I think I should mentio that you are talking to someone who actually knows the code of the 3000 very well (could probably rewrite it ;) and someone who knows the story of the birth and development of MPC's better than anyone else I can think of. (MPC3000LE)

Roger Linn invented the MPC, akai offered him the resources to develop it. You will be very hard pressed to correct MPC3000LE. Since you're new around here and obviously don;t know everyone, i thought I'd save you the trouble of finding out the hard way.

if he says akai never wrote the OS in the first place, he's probably right. ;)

Also, the new OS is floppy bootable and is quite stable and better than the last 3.11 OS, fixing bugs, adding features, you should check the link, there is no real risk.

elmacaco, I will not get into which one of us is more hung than the other. No, I am not new to this forum. I just rarely post but read plenty of what's going on in the threads. In fact, I sold quite a few MPCs to the catz that are on this site.

Yes, I do know the story of Akai and Roger Linn. It is no big secret. You can find the entire history on the internet. You are playing with words when you/anyone says that Akai didn't invent the OS in the first place. As far as Akai and Roger Linn...I wasn't there when they researched or developed the MPC 60/3000. I was in Japan though..running through some local nationals..making babies and what not...But AKAIs story is that they based the MPC 60 on Roger Linns drum machines. They designed it and brought him onboard to do the sequencer. I am not calling you a liar or trying to re-tell the history you may have been telling. But this is the WORD that Akai gives...and I will not debate it since I wasn't there. The MPC 3000 is based on the MPC 60..which Roger Linn was already on board..and most likely led the way.

Now, I have used an MPC 3000 for years. And even snatched up the LE version when it was released in Japan. I rarely had any troubles with OS 3.11. There really is no reason to do anything else with it. I am not into programming...but I suspect that there is not much more you can do with the MPC 3000 without updating some of its hardware. I am talking about graphic waveform editing..time stretch...and other sample editing tools. I could be wrong though...but until a 3rd party comes along and does that..its gospel.

As far as the MPC 3000 and 3000LE...they are identical...just re-released with a new color and it many places( like Japan)...16MB memory standard.

Again...there is nothing I need from that OS upgrade. I have been fully aware of the OS upgrades posted at that MPC 3000 site. I just never felt the need to mess with a perfectly good machine for no good reason.

Peace.

you're telling me....I had to midi up a Yamaha QX7 sequencer, Alesis SR 16 drum machine, Casio CZ3000 and an S900....WITH NO INTERNET.....but learning all that stuff was half the fun....

RTFM!!!!!!!
