PRO TOOLS QUESTION ???????

I make my music with the mpc and keyboard for the the majority of each song. my question, is pro tools useless for hip hop production in midi

for hip hop, is this going to be a deciding factor? please school me on this.

Pro Tools is a great tracking DAW but is very poor in the Midi department. Programs which excel in Midi applications are Logic, Cubase, Sonar, ect...

I use Cubase for tracking only. All my tracks are sequenced in the MPC.

The MIDI functions in ProTools aren't that bad on paper. I mean it has more than enough basic functions to make hiphop on, no problem.
BUT, the problem I've had is the MIDI timing. ProTools is the second computer sequencer I tried to use with a samper, and the timing was just to sketchy and unsteady on both of them.

I've since switched to sequencing everything on the MPC, then tracking into ProTools with the MPC synched via Midi Beat Clock.
That way everything lines up with your ProTools grid for easy editing.
ProTools is still a good way to go for tracking, because it's "industry standard", so you can take your project into just about any studio in America and add to it, mix it, whatever....

I got PT, and I use it's midi for the MPC and other gear. I got the MPC synced to PT, I use the sequencer in PT just for my boards. I have no problems with timing issues or sync. I did, but I just configured things differently, and now it is solid as a rock. Couldn't ask for anything more. If you get PT, let me know, and I will tell you how to over come these issues.

I think we have to be careful to make blanket statements without updating ourselves. Protools MIDI, in the latest versions of the software, are just as tight as my cubase, logic or MPC. If one does not know how to set it up that way, then say so, but just saying it does not do its duty and not have done a recent test to determine, and using old information to base our opinion on, is senseless.

Truth of the matter - I use PT to do the majority of my MIDI. It works fine. In years past PT was not as good, but its no different than anything else; in time, things get better. And today, I do almost everything in PT.

what do you mean? which hardware piece is good with the mpc? there are 2 versions of the software but unless youre big willy lootcake with a ton a cash to spend you want the le, not the tdm version. either the digi 001 or 002 will work great.
