precisely.

actually the performance of hte ram doesnt matter shit for the MPC as long as its upto specs.

i bought me some generic crap, moved my MPC to and from school almost every day at one stage. survived perfectly, still works.

its not like on a pc where you can benefit from better brands of RAM, cos on a PC the ram has much more demand, but on an MPC its limited by the speed of the CF card and obviously even when you're pushing it hard, it cannot match upto 2 gb of ram clearing itself of textures to the video card of a computer.

you'd have to be REALLY unlucky to get ram that works and then suddenly go's bust.

Is there any guide on how to change the ram in the 1k? I have just got my MPC1000, and I have just placed the order of one piece of kingston 256 mb 144pin so-dimm ram, and a kingston 512 mb cf card... :)

it checks out to be the spec, so yes.

just a word to say i bought this RAM and it works, $50
there's a link to a cheaper website ($35) butthe company looked kinda sketchy - they were asking a 15% restocking fee - BULLSH!T

I got my Kingston 256 mb pc133 144pin cl-3 in so-dimm ram yesterday - installed it in my mpc1000 in 15 seconds (just unscrew the two screws that hold the lid underneath the mpc1000, pop in the ram module, screw the two screws in again, done) - works like a treat... also got a kingston 512 mb compact flash card at the same time.

let's say I have a pile of 512 ram hunks lying around... in unused laptops, etc... would these work?

thanks...

You will need a 256 ram module... Or 128 mb if you have a EXM128... since the MPC1k only reads one side of the module.
