Here is my chat with tech support at cablestogo.com in regards to the connector for the HD.

The Original Question was "I need a SCSI 50HD Male to 44 IDC Female Adapter?

"Welcome to our chat service! You are number 1 of 1 waiting. Average wait time is 0 minute(s) and 13 seconds. A representative will be with you shortly. We appreciate your patience!

Jeremy: Hello! Thanks for chatting with us today. We are reviewing your question or issue and will be with you in one moment.
Marc: thanks
Jeremy: No, unfortunately we don't carry an adapter that will let you connect an IDE drive to a SCSI interface.
Marc: how about if its not scsi, is there still some type of adapter for those pin sets?
Jeremy: We do carry an adapter that will let you connect it to a 40-pin IDE flat ribbon cable:
Jeremy: http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?c ... &sku=17705
Marc: ahh..i see, nice. this might be headed in the right direction. there is a pic on the internet that has a connector type, can you identify it if i sent you the link?
Jeremy: Certainly
Marc: http://stereoroid.com/sounds/mpc1000/images/hdconn2.jpg
Marc: i hope its visible enough for you.
Jeremy: That's a good photo, but unfortunately we don't have an adapter or cable with that type of connector on it. You might want to check with that device's manufacturer.
Marc: do you know what type of connection it is on that pic? maybe a really good guess?
Jeremy: It's hard to say--its not a connector type that I've seen before
Marc: cool, thanks jeremy for your help."

So I talked to cablesonline.com and i asked " I need to connect a laptop HD, 2.5" with a 44 Pin Connector to a 50 Pin Device."

He said such cable did not exist, atleast to his knowledge, but he said he can custom build one for me, with the correct information, like which 44 pin will corelate with the one of the 50 pins.. which i figured was possible, but needed to figure out pin configuration data on both the akai connection and the 2.5 HD, which turned me off rather quick since i aint a commputer techy.

anyways..

I called to ask for the instructions on how to install the drive & spoke to someone in the service dept. He said he would send me info on how to do it, but all I got was the response below...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,

This will actually require a special rack to be put in the drive bay which will be offered from our Parts dept. in the next few months. Also an operating system upgrade will be needed and in currently in development. Currently these is not support yet for this to be upgraded. But full documentation will be available once this is implemented.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the point of this email from support is...don't try to figure this out yourself, just wait for the part from akai because the os will need to be upgraded, which supposedly isn't ready yet...

Makes me wonder why they would have posted the hdds that work???

Why? Are there 50 pin connectors in the MPC1000? Why do you keep mentioning SCSI?

I sent an E-Mail to Akai...

Hi, I own a MPC 1000 and was curious to know whether or not, since you
have
listed compatible HDs, you provided the appropriate connective casing
for
the said HDs?

The reply i received was...

The will be a kit available for installing the drives and possibly the
hard
drives will need to have a new OS upgrade. At this time we are waiting
to
hear back on this

Let me know if that helps.

A fellow a few post back said it was a 50HD pin connection inside the MPC 1000, the SCSI ish is just to describe the DB25 Pin Stlye Conector outline, i guess.
