Word! The pads on the 1K are notorious for having problems. I'm just hoping that Akai will make better replacement parts down the line. Who knows? Maybe someone else will come up with a more durable aftermarket replacement. There's a guy on ebay by the name of chipforbrains, and he's been making some really incredible aftermarket replacement parts for alot of older gear. Maybe one day, he'll be able to do the same for Akai parts. I'll have to get in touch with him and let him know that he can make some big sales if he were able to do that.

Other than that, I felt that buying the 1K was a bettere choice for the money, specifically for the memory upgrade. 32mb just aint enough for me. I used to work with my friend's 2K classic back in the day and find it very limiting in that particular aspect, although the pads were a hell of alot better than the 1k.

I would hold on to that 2000xl and just buy the 1k.
I find that editing in the xl is very easy.
So I edit in the 2000 and then send it to the 1k.
Plus your 2000xl looks really cool....why would you want to get rid of that?

You have to bang the shit out of them. Like on da 2k u hit da pad you good but on da 1k u have to damn near bang da ish to get the sound to fully sound. Thats probaly why many have issues with their pads. I mean you can go in the OTHER MODE and set the velocity for the pads but thats cuts back on time though.

Quick question for others: Can u set the velocity in Blue Box for each pad? Somebody told me you could but I cant get it to fully work for me.

Thanks

Ok,

I have noticed the pads to be a little temperamental, however, you have to strike them pretty dead centre to get full velocity / range sensitivity, but there is nothing wrong with learning a little precision - think of Guitar strings; round 3mm wide..........[/list]

no

i say keep the 2kxl unless you use it live, then get the 1k (very portable!!!)

i have used the 1k for about a year and from using the blue MPC with the MCD at Guitar Center I feel that

1. the filter sounds better on the 2kxl!! On the 1k sounds become noticeably "filtered" and colored, the 2kxl filters sound more natural to me

2. several nice features in the step edit section, such as you can se more midi data. This is nice if you use the mpc as a master midi thingie.

But otherwise the 2 machines are pretty much the same i think

And for the record I like the 1k's pads better. they are the bomb to me because they respond to a soft touch; if you want 127 all the time use full level.
