nothing cheesy about genius.......
Sorry guys. I'm not taking anything away from Bob as a musician......but all that CTI stuff is sort of the beginning of what is marketed now as "smooth jazz" (smooth cheese), and while there's a lot of INCREDIBLE CTI moments, there are also TO MY EARS lots of cheese filled moments......like shmaltzy string arrangements.......and smooth-jazz-fusion interpretations of classical music pieces.
I got you
I Feel You ICHY BUT............................................................
for the non jazz purist...........
the classical fusion jazz blend can be very interesting........EVEN FUN........
and some of it is too sweetened but it does have it's place..............
would i hold any of this up to MONK.........no.........and someone commented on alot of the Ramsey Lewis Fusion type pieces fair enough.....
but somehow these BOB JAMES pieces have come to define alot of HIPHOP material.........almost HISTORICALLY...........................
I remember shopping at Music Factory in NY....................
NO not in The Bronx or Crooklyn...........but on Times Square 42nd st.....
(Years Ago)and I Went in and asked Do You guys have BOB JAMES 1,2,3 or 4 and was Quickly answered NO I'M Sorry Maybe next week.............
I hung out and shopped the store and AMAZIN'LY so I Heard the Same Clerk on the Phone TALKIN' to ERIC B on the Phone SAY Yeah MAN We GOT BOB JAMES 1,2 and 3 on hold for You nah we Don't Have 4 tho'........
I was HOT...........AND Nearly BLACKED OUT..................
Bottom Line Those Tracks on 1,2,3 and yes 4 are Legendary..........
NUFF SAID..........
TRUST THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
