what am i going to do with it now? maybe eat it if im hungry!

nah fam, keep it. what i will start doing is everything that i do, will be backed up in 2 spots: my computer and the CF card. hard drives can crash and you lose everything. i'm talking more in terms of computer hard drives. i don't think the drive for the mpc will crash.

or you can (if you know someone with one) use the cards to go between mpc's. if you do work on yours and go somewhere where they have a 1k, just save your work on the CF card and bounce.

yee, but its sure then that my computer will recognise (me cant spell) the harddrive? cause that is great. I thought that you had to use the CF card as a transfer devidce at first.

Wonder if its possible to use the mpc as an "external harddrive" for my computer then? =) allthough i guess that its like usb 1.0 so it will be slow if it would even work

in a sense, that's what you are already doing. when you have you mpc connected to the computer, all your computer see is a "mass storage device" and you are using your CF cards as external drives. so yes, in a sense, when you have the HD in the mpc and connected to the computer, the computer will still only see a "mass storage device"

Thats definitly a wise choice.
Soyo, keep that card. Yeah it's another $100 investment, but a secure investment if anything, let alone the portability factor.

For your sake, I hope they're able to repair it or else they will end up replacing it with a B-Stock unit which may look a bit blemished (even though Rob Ray will tell you otherwise).

Man, I'd hate to have to back up a 40gig drive over that usb connection. It took about half an hour to do my 512MB card before I got a card reader, that works out a bit less than two days for a 40gig drive.

Either they upgrade the usb to 2.0 or the only way to do this fairly quickly would be to pull the drive out, install it into a firewire enclosure and then connect that to your computer.

No doubt. They really gotta do something about that. Sh!t, I thought those old Colorado tape backup drives took forever back then.... DAMN!!!

here is an update on the kit.

this is for the users who are outside of the US. i was told that for ppl in the UK, for them to pre order this kit, they would have to go to their local mpc dealer (whereever you got your mpc from) and ask them to pre-order it. if they don't know what you talking about when you give them the product number "HDM10", tell them to call akai. it is ok for them to place the order.

i was specifically told about the UK but i am assuming it's the same everywhere. i think Canada can get it from the US.

as far as the date of official release, i would say around mid november for the US. not sure about other parts.

as always, if i find out more, i'll let you know.

PS. the OS is also coming very soon. from the way it was describe to me (by someone who has it already) it will do more than what we can currently do. that's all i know of it.
