Whats good? I was hoping for someone to help me get passed a little problem I can't seem to get rid of. I'm a newbie but I have read my manual a couple of times and searched this forum for 2 days and couldn't find the answer to this problem.

I'm working with the 2000XL and what I did was sampled an instrumental record 44 bars long and saved it as a sound and a program. I'm familiar with the TRIM mode and screens associated with it as I thought that would be important for me to have good skills in to loop samples tight. My sample is tight, I got it to loop right and it sounds good when I hit the pad.

Now I want to record it and loop it so that I have 88 bars recorded on a sequence and then save it as wav. to the disk so I can take it to my computer, via external zip drive, to burn on cd. I have the tempo set right to match the cliks, I have the bars on 88 b/c thats how long I want to record it, my loop: is on, my timing is 1/16 and my tsig: 4/4.

So I hit the REC and PLAYSTART and hit the pad on time all the way till it got to 88 bars and I pressed stop. The problem is when I playback its only recording 26 bars then the sound dissappears and then loops back at the first bar then plays the loop again all the way to the 26th bar and the sound goes away again. I can't see what I'm doing wrong I hope I was specific enough?

88 bars is a lot to record man. i suggest you trim that sample and use the most 8 bars or 16 which is already a lot. 88 is way too much bars to record a sample.

I think you misunderstood, I recorded the sample 44 bars long. Now I just want to record on a sequence but double the length(88-bars).

I know its possible because I just sampled a 4 minute instrumental straight off my Tech's 1210mk2 and recorded it on a sequence and saved it on the zip and took it to my computer and burned it.

Infact I did with 4 songs, 4 minutes each except every time I copied the wav. file onto my computer I erased the track off of the zip for space.

Record it.Copy and drag it to the end of the other clip to where it loops smoothly and that's it.

Stryke, thats what I want to do but its not recording the whole sample which is 44 bars long. Its stops recording at 26 and I don't understand why when I just sampled straight from my turntable a 4 minute song and recorded 98% of it (Which is way past 26 bars) on 1 sequence with no problem.

Now the thing is that I don't want to cut the sample short because there is some important scratches and vocals in the sample that goes past 26 bars that I want. There has to be something that I'm not doing?

The Sequencer on the MPC will only record for a duration of 9999 "ticks". There are 384 ticks per bar (384 x 26 = 9984) so you will only be able to trigger a sample for about 26 bars.
You could possibly chop the sample into smaller pieces keeping in mind that the longest you will ba able to trigger will be about 26 bars.
Really though, you should try using smaller pieces, (maybe 4 or 8 bars) instead of trying to trigger a larger loop.

Hi nikken and thanks to all who have contributed advice. How can that be when I sampled and recorded on a sequence a 3 minute song 72 bars long? (4 minutes was incorrect) The song is from LIL'MO, title is DEM BOYZ.

All I did was sampled directly into MPC from my turntable and sampled the record up to the maximum amount of seconds MPC allows(Which is around 189) . Then I trimed it and saved as sound and program then recorded into a sequence and saved as wav. onto zip disk to transfer to computer.

I wish I can attach a wav. file here but it wasn't letting me do it. I just heard the song again and its 72 bars long. ???

You know what fellas I think I got it! I went back and started from scratch and I found out that I made a mistake with the bar count. I must of hit something to change that count to 44 but the actual bars of the sample is 22 so I rerecorded it and then copied the event in the edit screen and now I'm able to stretch it to 88 bars from there.

The only thing is, there is a bit of a gap in between the events. If you guys can throw a hint to me on how to get rid of that gap I take it but meanwhile I'll be in the manual trying to figure it out. Thanks again fellas.

I just want to ad this for future inquiries:

What I did was turned off the Loop(LOOP:OFF) from the main screen and then hit Shift-Prog then went to the Parameters screen and moved the cursor to the right to NOTE:OFF and changed it to Note:MONO that way I could hit the pad free hand while recording it. I went back to main screen and changed the bars to 88 then hit REC/PLAYSTART. When the 22nd bar came around I hit the pad on time all the way to 88 and that got rid of the gap.

OK fellas I have another scenerio,

I don't have a software sequencer (I just sold my Cubase) so I just sampled this loop into the mpc. Now I need to extend this 22 bar sample into 66 bars while its still a sound and save it as a wav. file because when I try to save as a sequence it only lets me save as a midi file and I can't burn that on my computer.

I'm at the TRIM screen right now and I have the manual out but there isn't anything in this manual that is clear about extending this sample, does anyone have any suggestions maybe a trick that wouldn't be in this manual?

for some reason i think a cd burner would be a much more useful production tool for you than your MPC

Yeah. If your gonna sample 26 bars of something (especially a rap song) you mines well just buy a cd recorder and record the whole song.
