I recently obtained the Waldorf Microworks filter on Ebay ($275)

Although its only a mono input low pass filter it sounds AMAZING!!!! Also has LFO's, etc, very flexible. Kills the way I used to work between the 1k and computer.

I have been working by resampling through it, kicks and snares first and foremost, then sweepy things. Haven't yet synced it to the 1k.

After putting the 1k sound through that and some modest panning and EQ with my Mackie, I can happily say that

This combo is the bomb. The 1k sound is nice, period. Any doubts I had about the machine are pretty much deaded by running it through a mixer and this external filter thingie. I think the 1k really shines once it has been put through some kind of a board, when I used to run the outputs str8 into my soundcard (Aardvark) the sound wasn't close, even mixed + polished. I'm disillusioned with my PC now, I don't ever want to use mine again (except to multitrack live instruments). For now I'll just mix down str8 to cassette, thank you kindly.

PS for anyone wondering (like I was) how to perform a stereo flip or change a stereo sample to mono, just run cables from the main out to the record in!

I really wish I bought the MFC42 before it was discontinued. It really would've been perfect for production as well as my DJ setup.

why do that when you can just sample via the main out in the record page?

don't think you can do a stereo flip with resampling.

Good on your Waldorf filter purchase! I have a Waldorf Pulse+ (has audio in) which I resume is the same filter. There is an
[urlhttp://www.vintagesynth.com/waldorf/index.htm]AUDIO DEMO[/url] here. You need to chose MiniWorks from the left.

But yeah, dirtying up your digital signals with some analogue warmth is the thing to do.. You can never have too many analogue filters - I have 6 and still need more!

Not sure if this will work 100% Remember, splitting audio is easy but mixing is not! If you are combining a mono left/mono right (stereo) signal using just a cable that mixes the signal, it is unlikely that you will get a 50/50 mix of the original left/right channels. I think you will find that certain characteristics from one channel will dominate over the other - very unpredictable and will keep swapping depending on the sources. Its likely that it sounds okay to you because your source does not have too much extreme stereo going on..

My knowledge is not strong in this area so maybe someone else can expand, but I am pretty sure this will not work correctly..

Cool ...

I've got a Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro at home, waiting for an audio interface and some cabling to get busy with.

I think as long as you have a nice connection (converters) going into the computer you'll have a world more of opportunities than just tape - maybe use both.

Of course it's all down to taste.

Good to hear some nice words on the Mackie, I've not fully tested it yet.

word! I should've never sold my Moogerfooger Lowpass Filter two years ago. That's one piece of gear I regret selling.

Need to get my head round that as well. I'll be looking to track directly through the four pre-amps, intially.

my problem is that i am of the digital school so all my effects are direct x....i've never even touched a rack effect or any hardware effect for that matter.....

I'd like to get into some outboard effects - a compressor would be quite nice, along with some reverb - all a matter of patching and routing I believe.

compressor for sure. it's sooo much harder to learn how to use good compression via software...you need to be able to turn knobs and stuff.

as for distortion, reverb, delays, etc - i'm fine with software. i want some hardware for shaping my vocals more....

thanks man - those were the first pieces i completed fully on just my 1k, i consider them the first of a new breed of my instrumentals. www.excommence.com/staplemouth%20beat.mp3 is my newest and best.

i would like to get a tape deck so i could try some of that old style.
