I recently obtained the Waldorf Microworks filter on Ebay ($275)
Although its only a mono input low pass filter it sounds AMAZING!!!! Also has LFO's, etc, very flexible. Kills the way I used to work between the 1k and computer.
I have been working by resampling through it, kicks and snares first and foremost, then sweepy things. Haven't yet synced it to the 1k.
After putting the 1k sound through that and some modest panning and EQ with my Mackie, I can happily say that
This combo is the bomb. The 1k sound is nice, period. Any doubts I had about the machine are pretty much deaded by running it through a mixer and this external filter thingie. I think the 1k really shines once it has been put through some kind of a board, when I used to run the outputs str8 into my soundcard (Aardvark) the sound wasn't close, even mixed + polished. I'm disillusioned with my PC now, I don't ever want to use mine again (except to multitrack live instruments). For now I'll just mix down str8 to cassette, thank you kindly.
PS for anyone wondering (like I was) how to perform a stereo flip or change a stereo sample to mono, just run cables from the main out to the record in!
