MPC 2500

You gotta love Numark for recognising the power of the Akai brand and snapping it up when they were down. Amazing to think that one of the biggest names in music production technology got to be in such a mess. Anyhow, the MPC2500 - seems like a good idea, but 128mb RAM max? C'mon - that's not going to be enough for any artist who's made more than one album to use live - and if you want to use the phrase samples - no where near enough without loading sounds between songs.
I guess that fact that it will read compact flash might mean quicker date reading times...

I am happy with the MPC 2500. Now I am getting a stand alone workstation (in addition to my other sound modules) to go with the MPC 2500. I have decided on a Fantom X for Guitar Center because the Sweetwater Rep insulted me when I tried to get a good deal on the Kurweil 2661 His lost..I would have paid the $2600 for the 2661 w/ the sampling option if he would have been a little more professional. Dude told me he wasted his time with me......I should sale him a copy of my book on hustling and customer satisfaction

i personally don't like the fantom but did you know that all fantoms now come with the ability to have i believe 8 inputs? if you don't have a computer, you can track your mpc into the fantom.

There are not that many new sampling workstations on the market. There is Roland, Yamaha, Korg, Kurzweil, Alesis. So its not like we have many to choose from. The Roland X is ok. Can't really say it is better or worst than any of the others. But talking about it will take us into a completely new direction.

Yes, I do know that the current Fantom X has audio tracks now but I do have a decent computer running my DAW.

you're right about that, that's why i didn't suggest or even mention the other machines. i just stated i personally don't like the fantom.

but i'm glad you're happy with it. don't get me wrong, it is a dam good workstation but it's just not for me.

Guitar Center ran some BS on me when I got there. I called and they told me they had one in stock. I got there and they tried to sell me a floor model. After listening to the salesman give me the same spill they give to novice consumers...I had them order a new model and save an additional $150. It will arrive Monday.

I never liked the Fantom X myself..mainly because I know Roland's practice of patching there older products together and call it a new item. I already own the Fantom XR and the sounds are not bad. I just wanted another workstation. So, if the Fantom X is not your cup of tea..which workstation would you have purchased. Just making conversation. You may make me order an additional workstation although propbably not your intention

in turns of functionality and ease of use, the motif es is my choice. i know.... everyone has that and i bet you knew i was going to say that. but the fact of the matter is it's true everyone has the motif. but to get different sounds you can add different roms. and the fact that you can output either 16 separate tracks to your daw with the optional M-LAN card.

I actually have the Motif ES Rack. Originally, I choose the Triton Studio as the one workstation to keep in my set-up because of the interface.

I thought long and hard about the Motif ES and Fantom X workstations. The Motif lost mainly because of that little LCD screen and the Fantom X has the pads and audio tracks, which my kids may find useful. I only have room for one workstation.

the fantomx is a dope workstation. beats anything else out there, imo. i've had a x8 for a year and half now and v2 OS was a great improvement over an already good system. anyway, i don't want to fuel the flame war: just stating my opinion. unless you use the xr live i'd suggest you sell it because the fx will do everything and more. what exactly do you need to do with the workstation, btw?

also, why didn't you get a vsynth? if it was because of a post a while back stating that it's not "hip hop" because it doesn't have good presets (brass, srings, etc) for it and that swayed your decision you don't deserve to have a real synth anyway: presets on a synth are junk. you have to program your own!

u do the v-synth aint a traditional synth man ......for instance if you read i stated i have the actual talkbox not a simular patch.....THE REAL THING! since u feel u can "tweek", explain to us how to "morph" our voices with any synth you own or heard about including the v-synth........we waitin?.........RIIIITTE!! i thought so u reachin for that preset hommie! watch ya mouth dont let me pull ya skirt up and see ya abs-synth!

My main goal was to get a new workstation in my studio to replace the Triton Studio. Korg needs to create a scaled down Oaysis in the Triton Studio range. But for now, the Triton is boring and needs to go. I will use the Fantom X workstation, but my kids will probably use it more as well as friends that come over. This will keep them away from my MPC 2500 set-up.

The V-Synth XT could be a possibility in the future...but I don't know yet. Roland has enough of my money. Since Roland programmed the presets of the XV-5080 for the Fantom, I will store these presets in My Fantom XRs flash rom card and may get rid of the XV5080 if I am impressed.
