Hi everyone, looks like you have a very informative community going here.

I'm seriously considering buying an MPC 1000 right now. I have a little experience with hardware drum sequencers: I bought the electribe EM-1 to get into hardware after a few years of using software. I really like using it, but obviously the sounds and polyphony are very limited. I have never had a 'serious' drum machine before.

I am pretty much sold on the MPC-1000, however I have one major concern:

Is the MPC 1000 capable of crashing or doing unexpected things when pushed to its limits? Like for example, what would happen if you played the maximum # of long samples, with maxed out effects and filters, etc... would it crash or hiccup?

One of the main reasons I like hardware is that, to my mind, it should simply do what it was made for, without compromise. IE, it shouldn't start going wacko when asked to do what it was designed to do.

Any help much appreciated.

It won't have lag issues like a PC, but you may find odd behavior once in awhile. Spend some time going through the posts and doing searches, and you will know what I mean. For the price tho, and the features that are coming in the next OS, it's a really great buy.

i have never ever crashed my MPC.

you get 32 stereo sounds at once, i cant really think of a sensible way to use that much. but if you do reach the limits, just get mono sounds instead and your up to 64

yes the mpc is cool and works well imho.
there are tiny little thinks which you may encounter some time, but nothing major.
(i reckon it is more or less the same with every machines, they all have little gotchas, but no big problems such as a computer crashing, lagging, stuttering sound etc... imho)

and i think the mpc1k will go well with your electribe, because they are so different. that combo should be really flexible for live use.

If you are placing a lot of importance on NEVER seeing a glitch or flutter, you will be dissappointed.

But, it is more stable than software for sure.

One thing I have seen is, if I overdub-record a bunch of different things onto different parts, without ever pressing stop, some tracks will drop out for half a bar. That can be avoided simply by stopping the sequencer once in awhile.

Maybe with v2 they fixed that too, but really, it just aint a problem. Still more solid than the pc's ive ever used.

mine has never crashed

but I think that pushing the machine's processor does cause the timing to become a little less precise, i.e drag in some parts of the bar

when there are lots of midi things connected and lots of pitch shifting going on. This has never been a serious issue for me only happens once in a while and can be fixed by resampling to take some load off the processor.

This is not a complaint about the machine however I love it, it does what its supposed to do, you just have to help it out sometimes, i would buy the 1k again in a second
