hello people,
one of my Q-sliders is broke, like for example when i put the tune under the broken q slider it will only play the lowest parameter. same with filter/attack/decay.

eehhm i was wonderin if i could just take it to the nearest gear shop (where they sell an mpc1k) and ask them to fix it or do i have to send it to Akai.

i bought the mpc of ebay second hand, i wasnt sure if Akai will fix second hand mpc's....

please letme know coz with the new OS coming up i wanna be able to use both sliders, you know.....

akai will service any product manufactured by them, at yor cost however.

you probably are gettingconfused with, akai wont service 2nd hand mpcs that are stilll under warranty. and in that case, no they probly wont.

did it ever work right for you in the begining?

Just don't tell AKAI it is second hand. I had a second hand M-Audio Delta 1010 that was way over it's warranty but I lied and got it fixed for free.

It is a fairly simple repair with some soldering that any electronics repair shop can fix. I would opt for a local shop if possible.

Akai Pro does not and has never fixed their own equipment. I think it is still the same under Numark (hence the two most common repair shops are TSI and VST). They all are separate companies.

As far as warranty, it can vary from repair shop to repair shop. A repair shop has to make the determination that they will get re-imbursed from the distributor (NOT manufacturer) when they look at your equipment. They do the work, give it back to you, and then they submit their paparwork, with fingers crossed. As far you are concerned, you only have to convince the repair shop that it is under warranty. This can be done in several ways:
1. If the manfacture date is less than one year ago (most everything has a date embedded in the serial. Shops are not obliged to honor this.
2. If you have proof of purchase that is less than one year old. Note that this has nothing to with the date of manufacture. I've bought new-old-stock from an authorized dealer for 5 year old equipment and immediately had it fixed under warranty.
3. You sent in that registration form. This starts the one year clock, plus provides the distributor with documentation that YOUR's will be covered, even without a receipt. Korg is pretty good at using this and they are pretty good at denying work for equipement that has been resold (which cancels the warranty). Most companies provide a way for repair to access this information.

Repair shops are not "required" to honor a warranty, particularly under suspicious conditions. The distributor will usually stand by the repair shop since the repair shop is the 'expert'.

okay well i have a warranty that came with the mpc, it hasn't been filled in yet, but its American so i cant fill the card in (because i bought it from a guy in FLorida). get it

maybe if i fill the adress in from a friend of mine that lives in America, maybe that will work?

anyway i didn't receive the mpc broke, it was perfect for about half a year/ three quarter's of a year,
then the q-slider didn't slide smooth anymore, it felt not like the other and after a month i took the hood off and looked if maybe dust or something i dont know got stuck there, but it looked normal, but than im not an expert,
and after that the parameters are all messed up, doesnt matter if i add decay or tune, it all scrambles up and if i move it too much it will only play the lowest parameter as if i would slide it all the down. i hope i explained it well,

so i dont think it was me that broke it, i did use it alot but not rough maybe it's best days are over :?

i would just throw it off the wall. It might work again after. Thats what i do with my flowers up xbox and it works for a lil while after. but my playstation dove out of my window and fell about 20 feet below. So i dont recommend throwing it out the window.
