Mic placement for vocal recording: Rightside up/upside down?

I am curious to know how and why every here is placing their mics for vocal recording.

Are you placing it right side up where the mic is level with the performer...

Or are yoyu placing it upside down where the performer is singing/rapping up into the mic?

If you put the mic upside down the vocals come out backwards....but dont worry...if you then play the recording backwards while standing on one foot it should all work out

Your vocalist will have a tad more power with his chin up a bit but whatever is comfortable is best. Just make sure the mic is not too close and don't allow your vocalist to sing directly into it as you will get pops on the P's & B's....I typically position the vocalist about 8 - 10 inches behind the mic and 2 inches or so to the side...rightside up or upside down no difference. Invest 20 bucks in a pop filter and stand or just make one out of a coathanger and some stockings....

i use a dynamic mic so i set it up basically horizontal, pointed directly at the artist, some times ill aim it more down toward the artist, if it brings a better performance out of them to have they chin up.

I have a boom type mic stand. I have the mic upside down slightly tilted toward the upper lip of the emcee. It makes them tilt their head up a little so the airway opens more. I've had better results that way.

tube mics should be placed upside down so the heat from the tube doesn't **** up the capsule.
