Roland maybe the micro$oft of the instrument industry and they may charge for their manuals, but all of the equipment I ever bought from them has been stable.

MPC-Pro, I will be anxiously awaiting your review of the MV. I think you will be pleasently surprised. Good looking out. <--- New phrase that's old.

By the way you can easily add images to posts here by hitting the "IMG" button and then adding the URL...Or you can just use the [img] code as well...You need to have it hosted though. If I remember, you have an MPC forum so I doubt you need help in that regard, but if you do, holla.

Compatibility. If you get the 4000, you know there's a thousand other cats who have one. That's a positive thing. When it comes to swapping sounds, or programs, or just trouble shooting, You can come to a forum like this and pretty much get all your answers. Try doing that with the 8000, even in a year or so. PLUS, the 4000 is just dope. That's why all of us are talking about it.

Compatibility doesn't matter with the MPC4000. Almost no MPC4000 owners are swapping files compared to the other models. For that matter, not many MPC owners in general are interested in swapping files. The majority of them want to collect new ones on their own through purchases or by sampling vinyl. The MV-8000 was just released so few people have them yet. The same was true of the MPC4000 in the beginning. It was so expensive (still is) that it kept a lot of people from buying it during a time when the economic future was uncertain. The MV-8000 does not have the same challenges. It should be near bug-free; is being released at a time when the economy is recovering; and costs less than an MPC4000 Plus.

The MV-8000 is compatible with the MPC2000. So there is already a degree of compatibility with the MPC series. Roland's compatibility decision reflects their intention to influence MPC2000/XL owners to upgrade rather than to get MPC4000 owners to crossgrade because there is a larger customer base in the first category. The MV-8000 accepts several types of files. It would be easy to import WAV files from an MPC4000 and create a new program on the MV-8000.

As I mentioned in the other post, I will have interesting details about the MV-8000 on Wednesday. Unfortunately there will not be any photos of the screens. I tried to take a few pictures of the MPC4000 last night. They were completely blurred. My digital camera is not capable of taking close up photos.

MPC_prod, make up yer mind! ya just said:
The MV-8000 isn't supposed to read AKAI format disks. From the Roland website: "Sampler compatible with a variety of audio formats: Audio CD, .WAV/AIFF, ACID, Akai MPC2000/4000 Series and Roland S-700 Series".
What I'm sayin' is just that: Roland's web site says "MPC4000/MPC2000" compatibilty and Roland's demonstrator at AES said "all MPCs, and all Akai samplers". I tried it myself and it don't even read MPC2000XL programs from ISO CD-Roms, only WAV files, so forget 'bout Akai CD-Roms!

Now, my MPC4k reads Akai MPC2k/2kXL/3k/4k, S1k/2k/3k/5k/6k and Z4/8 libaries, as well as Roland and Emu CD-Roms. 8)

Of course it does not read AKAI CD ROMS. Roland's literature never said that from the beginning. You are confusing AKAI format CDs with MPC2000 programs, which could be on a floppy disk. I cannot tell you anything about AES--I was not there and I don't represent Roland. The rest of the discussion will have to wait until I have an MV-8000 in my possession. It has not arrived yet. Like I said elsewhere, I will post my review on Wednesday. Better make it Wednesday night, if testing files has to be done too.

In fact, Roland changed the specs between their web site and the brochure. The web site was sayin' "Users can load Roland S-700 and Akai MPC2000/4000 libraries and.WAV/AIFF files from CD-ROM" and the brochure only says "Akai MPC2000 sound files".
Sure, it also says "All specifications and appearances are subject to change without notice".
I was at AES and the Roland demonstrator was sayin' "yeah, all Akai CD-Roms, with the programs and all", and he kept sayin' "it's like an MPC". Fool!

MPC_Prod, man, I'll check yer post on wednesday or thursday. Tell us what ya thinkin' after ya touch it.

Peace

I played with the MV at GC and it seems like a really overpriced MPC2000XL, sound and sequencing wise. Its gorgeous though, and feels really nice, like they studied the MPC3000 and added a beautiful screen and silver finish.

Roland added a hundred other things beyond the 2000XL and 3000. Not to mention the features that it has but the 4000 doesn't. For $1,900 it's a steal. I will have it tomorrow.

MPC_Producer -- i'm eager for your report. i'm in the same boat right now -- deciding between the mpc4000 and mv8000. i have some doubts on the mv since it's roland's first attempt at making something like an mpc, but i'm optimistic that it'll at LEAST work without crashing.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the MV-8000. I have already seen it in person. When I was in Guitar Center the other day I got a chance to see the one there. A customer was heavily involved with it. He had a copy of what looked like the Quick Start manual, apparently having gone through it before I arrived. He gave me a demo of a few things. After a few minutes I decided to leave him alone and play with the MPC1000 nearby.

After thinking things over I realized it would be a good idea to post a couple reports as I learn more about the machine. Each one of them should have insights beyond the Roland web page and brochure. I hope no one is offended by these reports. People get upset when something new comes along. Usually that means the new product is better because it was released later. I would rather they read my posts and then either choose new Roland features and technology or choose AKAI because they want to remain brand loyal and like the way the MPC series works.

I checked the UPS website a few minutes ago. Delivery is on time for tomorrow.
