my pads are fine

ive had a 2kxl and didnt notice any dif apart from size

maybe i dont have soft sensitive hands, dunno

and of course its entry level

it does all the basic mpc features. with the new os comin things are only looking up for the 1k

still, i might have something to say if my pads start dieing

of course. the 1k is cheaper because cheaper build quality. if people want to get someting more solid, then the 2500 is there.

reminds me that i have seen quite a few thread where people ask "why would i buy the 2500 after the 1k will get almost the same features" ?
answer as above...

the 1k pads work just fine for me, and theyre what im used to now.

a real drum head doesnt have a 'click-point', anyway, you just hit it and it gives a little, same as the 1k pads.

j.m wrote:BUT WHY THE HELL DID THEY CUT CORNERS ON THE PAD QUALITY.

well, they had to choose something. all manufacturer do this. could have been the screen, and we would have blind mpcs after a while. or the power supply, and the mpcs would just not work at all after the psu blow up (same as the emu xx-7 or machinedrum).

and as you noticed they also cut costs on the sliders.

in a world where everybody is using and abusing software, no doubt hardware companies need to cut cost. rather this than no mpc imho. :)

Compared to the mpc2k's pads, the mpc1k's pad do feel stiff and hard to me. They get the job done, however. I've had my MPC for well over two years now, and the pads all work just fine.

The question I have is: Will we ever get replacement pads fot the 1k that are more similar to the pads of other mpcs?

Given the difference in the design, I seriously doubt it. Although I hope that by the time I need to replace any of my pads, the quality of those parts would improve.

idk why but this thread is making me have second thoughts on the mpc 1k i got last night. The thing is i cant use it till christmas. I payed for a good part of it tho, and it made me think, spending this much money i could do much more with it. I have reason and my mac, kinda wanted to switch over to hardware, but maybe thinking of some tables and a mixer

(best part about the mpc 1k i got, i got a sick deal, and a holiday receibt, so if the new os and mpc bk comes out less then 30 days after christmas, i can return mine and get the bk, it was kind of an impluse by)

you are in nearly the EXACT same shoes i was last year
it is, today in fact, has been 1 day since i first bought my mpc1000, coming from almost the exact same background as you - from reason, etc.

i have NOT been disappointed AT ALL and i don't think you will be either.
in my opinion, easy portability beats slightly better pads and chopshop and nearly a grand more $.

keep your 1k and wait til your holiday.

the machine is built really solid

have had my 1k for a year and a half and I bang on my sht just about every day and I have no problems

do not doubt the machine

1 pad has lost the slightest bit of sensetivity - this does not slow me down one bit

you spent your money wisely

except for the whack color scheme - this is the true problem

the 1000 was the first affordable mpc with a multi card reader... and then the ram upgrade... this all made it very powerful! the 2kxl came out later with the mcd and that is a killer unit! i have a 1000, i love it. i can fly thru the settings to make beats fast... and i can chop beats fast as hell. the load/save time is super quick.

that automatically crosses out an old 2000 from my list (zip drives suk anyway).

the 3000 is sick, its older, its lower bits or whatever, and its RL's design! this would be my ideal 2nd mpc!

the 2500 seams to be cool... i almost wish I could trade my 1000 for one, but i need to stick to my purchase and wait for 2.0. 2.0 is going to make every other mpc user cry a little inside. its going to be beautiful! the os i mean... :)

um, the 4000 is a beast. i would not need one really, and i heard that the os sucks kinda, and that its actually NOT good at sequencing! my friend has one, and he likes my 1000 more? my step brothers dad (pro music producer) has a 4000 for the serious shit! so its ideal for some. maybe not the people who are trying to make grimmey beats with crazy mpc feel. its for the technical shit.

basically, i love my mpc... i will someday just buy another mpc, and add it to the studio. i will then split up the work that they do and make a crazy setup. maybe they will come out with some ultimate mpc, or maybe a new 3000? im waiting for that shit... just like im waiting for a 360. ;)

At its price point, 1k is a good value but it's still an entry mpc. I mean, its only half as much as 2500? Yes, the 1k will get the job done, but IMO, the 'mpc' feel is not really there. Why fix something if it aint broke? Akai intentionally or not left out some key features of the previous mpc's that made them so special. Its new so it must be better! not really. Its for people who buy gear from spec sheets, rather than how it feels and makes you work.

I've played with pretty much every MP apart from the two-five and the sixty.
Now I must say I like what the 1k is for. I've made some beats on my homies 1k but ....THOSE PADS..... geez man,.... they are gross!
I cant even bang out live overdub drums on those, the pads just dont respond properly... Plus, dude got his 1k around last xmas and now 2 pads are almost totally dead. He's on some madlib kinda shyt, making X beats a day, so I guess shyt wore out on him real fast.

Apart from the terrible feel and the low response...WHY did they change the design to rectangle pads? Square pads is perfect!, they could have just made em smaller...

hate on me all you want, im usually in the 60/3k forum anways

yeah, about that - i disagree wholeheartedly

only thing entry about the mpc1000 is the price as compared to older models and the 2500.

mpc feel isn't really there? care to embellish?

fix something that's not broke? i don't think the 1k was meant to replace the 2000/2000xl etc. if that's what you're worried about, meander over to the 2500 boards...that's the 2000xl killer.

ctoon: low response...? i've never had that problem and i play my mpc1000 pads for live drums in an electrorock band[/url]
