is it possible to send one effect unit to a group of imputs?
eg. my filter unit to channels 1 2 3 and 4 all at the same time, even though the filter unit has a single mono out. Then i can control the filter units sound thrugh 4 channels of the mixer all at the same time.
im trying hard to get my head around this subject. before i go by a big mixer. i have loads of synths and have only recently bought my first fx unit. (froastwave resonator) and want to see if i can control a number of synths through the single unit.
alex!
your confusin me already, because you are using some of the terms backwards i think...
i wouldn't look at the filter as 'controlling' anything, instead, think of the filter like a pipe, you put something in at one end, something else comes out.
basically here's what you can do:: have one aux 'send' going from your mixer to the filter input. have another cable going from the filter output back to a seperate channel on your mixer. (or the aux return if youd rather- the aux return channel probably has less eqing options which can be good or bad.)
what you can do from here:: without changing any cables, use the 'aux send' knobs on the mixer to pick and choose which sounds go into the filter. so you can have a vocal signal going thru the filter, and you can also put a bit of the drums through the filter -at the same time-, if you want.
Those aux sends will 'split off' a bit of any channel you want, and route it to the filter input path-- you can just picture it as an imaginary '2nd mixer' that takes little bits of each channel, mixes them together, then puts that thru the aux send loop.
what you can't do:: you can't 'split up' different sounds once they are all put thru the filter at the same time. so if you put some drums and some bass thru the filter at the same time, there is no way to separate the filtered drumsound from the filtered basssound (they all get mixed together in the filter.)
Extra tip:: aux sends come in 2 types, 'pre' and 'post' fader. Better learn what that means too...
