Pardon me for being a newbie. I just got my MPC yesterday and I managed to link it up to Sonar and use my Fantom X6 for it sounds using the MPC. Basically it is just a controller for now. I was wondering if there was a way for me not to use the sounds in the Fantom and just be able to load my drums in the MPC and just use the fantom for its sounds while simultaneously using Sonar. Is there a specific way of connecting it?

Thanks for the response Soyo.

Any Sonar users?

Just to insure I am clear. I want to use the MPC for my drums loading the sounds through the flash card and use my keyboard specificialy for melodies. If anybody could help with this I would greatly appreciate it!

Right. That is the set up I want. I want Sonar to be the master. But I want to be able to load my drum into the MPC and just use the keyboard for sounds. How do I set this up?

Then you would need have to have two midi outs on your computer.

Or you can: Put the "midi-out" from your computer in to the "midi-in" on your Fantom. Then put a midi cable from the "midi-thru" on your Fantom to the MPCs midi in.

Then from Sonar you use The fantom on midi-chanel 1 to 8 and the MPC on MIDI chanel 9-16

So basically when you put something in midi-thru you split your 16 midi tracks/channels in two. Then set up the mpc to react on midi channels 9-16.

Perfect. I will give this a shot.

I would say

Midi out of sonar to midi in 1 of the MPC
Midi out of the MPC to Midi in of the Fantom
Midi out of the Fantom to Midi in 2 of the MPC.

That's the way I would do it.

Too much confusion
