Yes i was aware of the compatability claims by akai before i bought the 2500 yet loading .PGM files gets you a "WRONG FILE" message. The 2500's inability to load .ALL files is a slap in the face to loyal akai fans.

I was forced to spend more money with akai to retrofit my 2000XL with a CF reader in order for me to load data into the 2000XL via the SCSI port & then save to CF to then eject the card & insert into the 2500.

I have (no lie) something like 400+ songs composed on the 2000XL i now need to modify for use on the 2500. What fvckin' drama yall. To all of you cats out there with a similar situation PLEASE PLEASE call akai tech support & let them know its straight up bvllsh!t. If anything drop 'em an email. Power in numbers mates.

They gotta do somethin' about it ASAP. Get that OS up!

If you knew the fact that the MPC 2500 doesn't load MPC 2000XL ALL files...than why did you buy one and now    about it???

The 2500 can load MPC 2000XL program files..but not all settings will be transferrable. This is clearly stated on Akai's site and in the manual. They are not the same machine. You knew this when you purchased it.

Jahrome,

True... u observe the details well. Do you have any idea how many people i know who would otherwise buy the 2500 but WONT for the same reasons i am pointing out.

Just tryin' to spread the word ... yes it is a good machine ....for those who have no history with akai. For those of us who do have a 100's of songs we dont want to part with, it is a time consuming royal pain in the azz to migrate to the 2500. You obviously don't mind....good for you. (here's a news flash for ya) Akai has already confirmed the slew of phone calls regarding this here matter. So is it being felt in the pocket of akai? ...yeah bro!

Disagree you might but the reality is that akai fvcked up & you know it.

First of all...not at people save their SEQ or Program as ALL files. If you are an XL owner and would like to make the switch, you can save your songs as individual SEQ or PGM files.

If many people don't want an MPC 2500 because they are too lazy to convert their ALL SEQ/PGMs to individuals SEQ/PGMs..than that is their choice. I don't care if Akai makes money off of this machine or not. Don't really care about how many phone calls they receive from the kids across America that have dreams of producing outside of their bedrooms.

But relax..it is on its first OS and OS updates are in the works..and you know this.

As far as the 2500 not reading MPC 2000XL program files...I have not had any problems. I have loaded quite a few XL drum kits and have no problems at all.

Again...it could be operator error. I still have the CD Rom that came with my XL full of MPC 60, 3000, 2000XL drum kits and programs. I loaded all these programs into the MPC 2500 and saved them to its hard drive. No problems.

The fact that this 2000 dollar machine isnt compatible with the earlier version is just crazy... I think that the fact that they can put ALOT of cash into developing this new version of the 2000xl and exlude a simple and basic feature like this insane. I think most of us save in .all. It has nothing to do with being lazy, it's just stupid of akai. What if the next version of cubase wasnt compatible with the ones before?? This would be... crazy!

Get a grip akai and fix this in the next os update...

I was pissed at first but then I resaved all the beats I wanted to keep as individual seq and pgm files

....and presto

my beats load with no problem

I also agree that they shoulda made the 2500 able to read those files, but its still not the end of the world

The XL was created based om technology/hardware from the mid 90s. It makes no sense at all to put futher development into these older MPCs. Akai doesn't do it and many other companies don't do this. Name one company that created a sequencer/sampler/drum machine in the mid/late 90s and still upgrading the OS 6 years later  Akai did put out one more OS update for the XL to allow support for multi-card drivers.

Cubase and an MPC are different platforms. I use Nuendo 3 and project created with Nuendo 1 and 2 do not always translate the same way when imported into Nuendo 3.

The 2500 can load XL files..but it does not load ALL FILES. As a person that actually buy Akai products, I have no problem with the 2500 not loading ALL FILES. You can use the work around aleady detailed above or not....keep using an XL with the ALL Files or step up and get a 2500 which add so many new features over an XL:

1. 4X more memory
2. 16X more programs per seqeunece
3. 10X faster editing
4. CD-R/DVD-R...80 gig HD support
5. Standard 10 analog outs/digital in/out
6. Standard effects
7. USB
8. Grid edit
9. Automatic slicing of samples
10. Continuous Sample track
11. Sampling/seqeuncing incorporated through various menus
12. Q-link sliders and knobs
13. More advanced MIDI features
14. Ability to set sensitivity of the pads
15. Larger display

Among other things.....if you want to give up these features for the ability to have ALL FILES...save your $2000 and keep using what you have. No harm..no foul :D

Don't get me wrong, I will most likley buy the 2500 as soon as I can afford it. But I think that akai could atleast provide a pc-program that converts the .all files from my xl or something. These machines are expensive and there should be some way to work around these simple backward compability problems. The thing is that here in sweden mpc's are actually extremley expensive ($2200 without any expansion) and I get very annoyed by hearing things like this, I just want to make music not solve problems!

By the way, does the 2500 use .all files of its own?

Solve problems?? Didn't you already read the solution for the ALL FILES above?? There is no need for a PGM of some sort to convert anything.

The 2500 doesn't have ALL FILES. But it does have Project Files..which you can save the entire memory of the 2500 to a folder/project file.

I laugh every time I read posts from people that 'get annoyed' about something they don't own or may not really need. Face it...Akai doesn't owe you or me anything (well they do owe me an OS upgrade to fix certain issues). Akai is a business. They put out products of their own design..with the features they believe customers will want...and try to make a profit..to stay in business and create more products. They can and will not put everything every customer wants into their products.

By soulscientist Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:32 pm
Sure akai doesnt own me anything, but it seems like a simple thing for them to fix. And they would definatley benefit from it because I would be a happy customer and run and buy it directly. But now there is an fundamental issue here, I can run and buy it but not bring my music with me without problems. You seem to be pleased with the whole situation, but for us who have made alot of music on our mpc2000xl and want to bring it to the new mpc's, I have to load up hundreds of beats made with .ALL FILES and resave them.

You cant say that's that isnt a pain in the ass for no reason.... :?

Not only do I have plenty of music created on an XL..but also the MPC 3000 and 2000. Any of the songs that I have that I really love...I tracked into Nuendo.

I guess you will have to just sit out..and window shop until Akai drops an OS that will solve your ALL File problem.

By soulscientist Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:51 pm
I'll have to sit and window shop until I can afford an 2500... When that day comes I'll have to sit down and resave all my beats, sure I wont be happy doing it but it's worth it If get my hands on a 2500. And If I save all my new beats I make nowdays I might be ready for it eventually...

Anyway, lets change subject... I have some questions about the 2500 I think you could help me with since you know alot about mpcs. But I'll start a new topic for them :)

The 2500 does have ALL files of its own, when u choose to save all seq&songs

open the folder window and look beside one after saving if u dont believe

and there really is a need for a program to convert them or the 2500 should be capable of reading all and aps

it would just be much less time consuming and convenient

theres no reason that it shouldnt be compatible, thats like upgrading from windows 2000 to XP and your word files wont open

like u said akai is a business and as a business they should have thought that they could generate more PROFIT by making xl files compatible so that people would want to step up without the hassle

otherwise they would make less PROFIT cuz people who own 2000xl will be reluctant to purchase which = less total profit
