Colloborate with an R&B player....they can guide you to your goal. For me, I start with a bass line and create an 8 bar "Verse" that can be easily doubled to 16 bars....then I;ll lay in the drums. I'll take a copy of that and kill the bass but keep at least the kick from the drums and create another 8 bars starting with that for a chorus....thats the "MPC" way...on the flip side I'll use a guitar and write the whole piece acoustic then recreate it on the MPC with the "Group" sounds.....try a little horns added to your chorus to set it apart.....
