I am scared

I was planning on buying a nice used MPC 1000 from gutar center for 650.00 but all of this broken pad talk has me weary. Will the pads inevitably go out no matter what or is it just a few faulty units? I wanted to gig with it and load my 2kxl s*%t on it for the road as it is so small. I talso sounds a bit crunchier to me.

Ask them if they offer any kind of warranty package on used gear. Would be a good investment if it's reasonable. I bought my 1000 used on EBay about 6 months ago, and so far it's working fine. I haven't had any problems with pads. I'm not too worried about it tho because they are relatively easy to replace, and since I got such a good deal on the mpc, I'm not sweatin spendin the money for new pads (IF i ever need them).

You are worrying too much. Have at it just don`t hit it with no drumsticks learn to play without pounding the pads with your fists (if you sound-design the sample right and set the program parameter at least decently) basically know what you are doing you shouldn`t have any major problems.

Most importantly read the manual and made sure to have the addendum about the velocity settings after 0S 1.06.



On the real the biggest problem it whether or not a person knows what they are doing.

In the beginning we all didn`t know what we were doing. Just don`t get into the hangup of blaming the machine than check out our lack of knowledge and experience.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The same guys that have a lot of these problems say they don't abuse their MPC's, but tell me this...how the flowers do side panels just "fall off" an MPC an knobs and shit just break off? It doesn't make sense.

I usually use full setting on my 2000xl and only program velocity sensitive rolls and breakdowns . Again most of my programming will be on my 2000xl and the 1000 will be for live playback.

because the mpc obviously wasnt assembled very well in the first place.
my sidepanels havent fallen off, but they have come a little loose. not everything is gonna make out of the factory line in the same condition one.

as for the pads, well the first 1k i brought had two pads that didnt work straight outta the box, took it back and the shop replaced it the following day.

1ks a good machine, but when you get it make sure that its fully functioning exactly as you'd want it to be... then be super gentle with it.

That's the good thing about real shops, not ebay. You can test the pads in the shop plus presumably there's a warranty period even on 2nd hand gear.

yo, NOT EVERYONE HERE WHO HAS PAD PROBLEMS WAS BANGING THE HELL OUT OF THE PADS!!

i've had pad problems and i don't hit my pads hard. they just go out after time. its a different design than all the other mpcs (even the mpd-16's pads are better).

i had my 1000 for a year and a half. pads started dieing, so i would use full level. still just got worse over time. for people who haven't encountered this problem i'm happy for you.

but don't think this pad issue is cause people are mistreating their mpc's. the pads on some of the 1000's are sht. i returned my brand new 1000 twice cause the pads were messed up right out of the box. how the hell do you explain that?

Ive had my 1k for a little over a year - no problems with pads.

quit being scared...

the machine is expensive so just take it easy with it.

obviously - if you bang on something its going to eventually wear out.

here you go, on the other thread you were stating in a rather dramatic way that your mpc was falling apart. and it is not. "a bit loose" is rather different from "falling off".

same for the lag you claimed you had, i first thought it was a serious issue, until you stated that it happened only twice!!!

So everytime your pc freeze, do you give panicked phone calls to microsoft hotline ?

Like it was mentioned above its a good machine, just be careful. After six months I took my mpc to VST, and they replaced 4 defective pads. i didn't bang on them all hard. Now with the so-called newer pads, plus the ones that were originally on there, and ones that are going bad. Due to do this in order to get accurate readings of my pads i use full level all the time. I don't panic when my computer freezes, but when one of the main features, bseides being a awesome sequencer, is velocity sensitve pads and those no longer function properly after a year it kinda sucks.

Since you have a 2xl and your thinking about gettin a '1000 , your real question is prolly "can i play the pads as hard as i played the 2xl", right?

no. Ive had both machines. the '2000 pads last longer before they start to lose sensitivity.
